You have to hand it to Anderson, he always finds a way to take a tiny but interesting storyline from a videogame and strip anything interesting from it. He did it to Resident Evil and he’s doing it to this.
Not to mention, he doesn’t seem to understand that we don’t want just another Dracula story and we certainly don’t want another Van Helsing.
And this is coming from someone who liked his Mortal Kombat movie.
Your right, there isnt much here, but instead of adapting on Dracula–which is what it sounds like they are doing and which has been done too many times before, they should be adapting on the Belmont lineage.
Or they could just do symphony of the night and have the main character be Alucard, as that was the best game.
What material? This is a side scrolling platform game from the 80’s. To be able to write a whole script from this “mythology” is a feat unto itself.
It’s actually pretty easy to understand Parker. The screenwriters are horrible in adapting the material.
With a game like castlevania, I would hope they would not deter too much from the storyline of the game, since that was great. I dont understand why videogames with good stories, when made into movies, are changed into crappy stories–Doom.
Paul WS Anderson completley ignores the mythology behind the Belmonts. It fucking sucks
