Glover, Newton and Platt join 2012

The end of the world is near. Well not specifically the end of the world but the movie about the end of the world.. Its near. And now 3 more names are added to the list of this apocalyptic thriller 2012. Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt.

/Film says:

Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt are in discussions to join Roland Emmerich’s epic disaster project 2012. An academic researcher (John Cusack) opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.

I have a soft spot for paralell universe stories for reasons less obvious. But they do tread a little too close to timetravel movies, which I tend to dislike (Back to the Future is the exception to that rule). However, Danny Glover has always impressed me, and Oliver Platt is just a genius character actor. I am sure they will both bring something special into the mix.

Alongside the already announced John Cusack, this is shaping up into quite a film. They originally wanted to release it in 2012, but if the Mayans are right, the Christmas season will be a let down anyways.

2012 is slated for a 2009 release.

  1. I just dont see how you can get bent over a movie based on a concept that some culture predicted the end of time.

Its not like they are saying its the “right translation” … they call that a documentary.

  2. Hasn’t this dead 2012 horse been beaten enough already? The 2012 myth had been disproved over and over again, and yet they decide to make a movie about it?
After Roland Emmerich’s other recent disasters I highly doubt this is a movie I’ll be interested in seeing.
