Sharon Stone gets Banned in China

It seems that the political hoopla surrounding films lately has reached a silly point. First Isreal bans the word Sex in Sex and the City, Russia calls for a boycott of Indiana Jones for offending Communists, and now it seems Sharon Stone shot her mouth off and the owner of one of the biggest Chinese cinemas took offense to it and has banned her films from his theaters.

Cinematical says:

Sharon Stone has annoyed the owner of the leading Chinese cinema chain to the point where he’s pledged not to show her films. What did she say? She said that the recent earthquake in China may have been “karma” — cosmic justice for the way China has treated the Tibetans.

With 5 films coming out that are not getting a lot of interest or buzz yet anyways, I don’t know that this is such a big deal. By the time her next film, The Year of Getting to Know Us comes out in October this will likely be forgotten.

But all that aside, what the hell was she thinking? Even if she DID think that there was some sort of karma for the tragedy that happened, why the hell would you say that out loud??

Some celebrities don’t realize just how the media hangs on their every word. No matter what they say, someone somewhere will report it. Saying something like this is just downright silly.

If they do continue to ban her films over this, I wouldn’t blame them. However, I also think it is almost juvenile to hold this over her head. He would have been just as effective in saying publicly that he thought her statement was insensitive and ludicrous.

Banning her films doesn’t do much. If anyone did want to go see them they could easily pick it up at a different chain, or rent it.

  1. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)

America freedom of speech is one of the best right that is given to us as American.
my point , she has added salt to the already wouded chinese ‘s family that has lost love one in the natural diasters.

  2. Thanks Lonnie, yeah my point was that she has the right to say whatever she wants. (No matter how retarded she looks). That’s all.
And SSB, (no offense) I hear what your saying, and one day I hope we can restore our pathetic US government. I’m so embarassed with my government and leaders. (It makes me physically ill at times).
I don’t have anything against the Chinese people only their leadership and some of there exports are shit but …..

But it seems I have a problem with corrupt leadership in general, so cheers….

  3. For those westerners who think they know China. The assumption or stereotype, that the chinese people are against their government, is wrong. It may be true 25 years ago, but not anymore.
I am an chinese american and I lived in Europe and US for more than twenty years and now I regret that I became a US citizen. 25 years ago, I demonstrated against the chinese government and I believe it’s no better than the north korean regime, but now I believe the chinese government is good, especially the top leaders, they are much better and smarter than they US government top leaders. Most chinese people support the chinese government on most issues, more than the US people agree with their government. also, the chinese system now is probably better than the US democracy, at least to the chinese people.

  4. Does she have the right to say anything? Yes.
Do our Chinese people have the right to hate her? Yes.
Do our Chinese people have the right to repel/hate her? Yes.

How many western people talking about Tibet freely have been there before? Do you really know what happened there now and what really happened when Dalai govern Tibet? You are fooled by the Dalai for so many years.

  5. Sharon, what an insesitive, stupid remark.

How many people died in that quake? People who have nothing to do with the chinese government. You’ve just put yourself in the same company as Pat Robertson, Jerry Farwell and John Hagee who said 9/11 and Katrina was punishment from God because of Abortion and Homosexuality.

    Insanely stupid comments all around.

  6. 790: She was in Cannes when she said it.

IF a star decides to use their celebrity as a political tool then they should be prepared for fallout like this. If she was hoping to further the cause of her friend Buddhist friends in Tibet and in exile she should have scripted what she was going to say. The Chinese people lost another 700,000 homes to aftershocks as she was was associating their plight with Karmic restitution for the sins of a repressive government. She deserves to lose the Dior contract and if she does make another movie I doubt it will ever screen anywhere in China. National Pride is running high here and with Shanghai and Hong Kong being huge luxury outlets I think Dior will take a few rounds for her…And I don;t think you will be able to buy bootleg copies of her mediocre films anywhere after this….
MEANSA needs to revoke her membership…That was just stupid.

  7. She might be entitled to say whatever she wants to say but as a human being insensitive comments like that just shows how stuck up this woman is.

  8. There’s a lesson here and its fitting as yesterday was Memorial Day

    Ricky, I totally agree bro!
But she can say whatever she wants as a US Citizen.

China bans its own people from saying anything bad about its leaders.
This film theater owner is a commie suckling bitch that wants to look good to his slavemaster government. I’m sure he’s getting a nice commie bonus for what he did.

The hurt feelings of anyone related to the earthquake are irrelivant.

    (The point is this)

In China, I would be located and sent to prison for this hatefull insulting email. Think about it….

  9. I honestly cannot fathom what she was thinking. Does God or whatever sit there and think “Those damn Chinese soldiers are beating up Tibetans, just for that I will cause an earthquake that will kill tens of thousands that had absolutely nothing to do with it!” Comments like this and Jerry Fawell who blamed 9/11 on acceptance of gays need to be publicly mocked endlessly. In spite of that China has no right to ban her films for it. Censorship is never acceptable. Instead comments like this need to be spotlighted and challenged.

  10. What the hell was she thinking, you ask?
What the hell was she thinking when she made ‘Basic Instinct 2’
What the hell was she thinking when she made ‘Cold Creek Manor’
What the hell was she thinking when she partaken of ‘Catwoman’?
What the hell was she thinking when she let her future ex pet a komodo dragon on the head?

Now, I don’t like how China has treated the Tibetans either, and Sharon Stone’s heart may be in the right place…not just her otherwise lovely mouth. I wouldn’t boycott films she has been in of late- China won’t miss a lot- but I think she should apologize.

What the people do is one thing.
What a bureaucrat does is another.

    Tell ya what.
Let’s throw some support to an actress who is smarter…say like Zyang Zyi?
