Josh Brolin as the new Terminator?

Director McG had a very extensive interview with The213.net recently. He talked about the film, and hinted that one of Hollywood’s most sought out actors; Josh Brolin might be the new terminator in his upcoming film, The Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Comingsoon.net gives us this excerpt from the interview via The213.net:

Asked who his “dream Terminator” would be? McG revealed, “…And there’s guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor – we’ll see.”

Wow…I can not believe this project is getting this much attention. After the third film, I was sure that the future Terminator films would go down hill, but it looks like the upcoming post-apocalyptic film has resurrected the hype.

Another interesting tidbit is that although it has been rumored that John Connor has a small part, McG confirmed that those rumors were NOT true, and that John Connor is one of the main characters.

A movie starring Christian Bale and possibly Josh Brolin with killer machines?  Who is as excited as I am right now?

The Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins starts shooting later this year.

  1. Christian Bale and Josh Brolin are both terrific actors but it wouldn’t matter if they added Daniel Day Lewis to the cast, McG is still directing. Who in the world would want to hand this franchise over to him to fix it.

  2. @Serena

Well I meant more of a realistic sized person rather than the titan that is arnie, someone who may be able to blend into a crowd of people, even if it would have to be a very beautiful crowd. He looks like a human rather than a walking statue :)

  3. With all the comments I’m…going to have to agree. No Josh Brolin as a new Terminator. Seriously. I’d much rather see someone like, oh “actor x” who has been a bit player in films and/or has had only a few films prior to being a Terminator.

Prior to his groundbreaking role, Arh-nold was primarily known as Conan.

Prior to T2, Robert Patrick had bit parts in action films, such as Die Hard 2

Prior to T3…nobody heard of Kristinna Loken outside of modeling.

    So I say…new face.

  4. It was hard enough believing Bale was gonna be in this movie. However, it is even harder to believe someone like Brolin would agree to be the Terminator. He is a great actor…why on earth would he want to act like a robot? I’d much rather see him in the lead role since Bale isn’t the main focus.

  5. Brolin has really proved his acting chops in the last year with stellar performances in 3 high profile films. I’m a fan. My concern about casting him in this is his age. If the franchise is to continue and his character were to return, isn’t he getting a little long in the tooth for a role that is so physical and works best when an actor of great physical perfection is in the role . He is/will be 40 this year. (I’m 41 myself so have nothing against over 40s).

It makes more sense to me to cast an actor in his late 20s or early 30s who could potentially return in the role a few times before hitting the wall physically.

I’m not saying that men over 40 can’t be quite fit and work in action films – there are many examples of it working just fine. I’m just thinking long term franchise wise.

  6. Well you could look at it as another sequel too many, but since they arent doing the back in time thing anymore, you could choose to see it as a new franchise about big f’kin robots fighting people with guns. The title is awfully clunky though. I think Brolin fits the bill as an infiltrator, average joe look with a cold stare
