It looks like James Cameron’s 3-D project is out of reach a bit further for us this morning. We get news of the new release date this morning from the caves of Yahoo:
James Cameron’s 3-D feature “Avatar,” which was scheduled for Memorial Day 2009, has been pushed back seven months to December 18 — almost 12 years to the day since the director’s “Titanic” set sail.
Fox announced the change Tuesday in a revamp of its 2009 tentpole lineup. The Ben Stiller sequel “Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian” will take over the May 22 spot that originally was reserved for “Avatar.”
This is not that disappointing. When you are waiting for something; more waiting, is just more of the same. I do love the burgeoning 3-D film phenomena that is about to be upon us all. I am certainly interested to see what a visionary like Cameron is able to do with the medium. You know the guy who birthed the Terminator is going to have some pretty things to show us!
The film itself is about “an ex-Marine who is sent to an exotic planet where he leads an uprising by its indigenous race.” another world means creative freedom with landscapes and this is perfect when you want everything to look fantastic in 3-D. You can design everything from the ground up, with the glasses on. Beowulf was the greatest 3-D spectacle I have seen to date, and it can only get better.
So much time has passed since Titanic – I am curious to see what Cameron has in store for us. 12 years is a long time to percolate ideas, and come Christmastime 2009 – we will be able to see them.
