Matt Lanter to star in ‘Cutting Edge 3’

matt-lanter.jpgUp and coming actor Matt Lanter will follow up his role in the pointless sequel, WarGames: The Dead Code with another pointless and DTV sequel, The Cutting Edge 3.

The good folks at Moviehole give us this:

The second sequel to one of the best ice-skating flicks of all time (revisit it, it’s worthwhile), again centres on Jackie (Christy Carlson Romano), the character from the previous film, who again attempts to compete at her sport’s highest level, while battling various enemies who try to thwart her efforts to make it to the top. No doubt Lanter plays her partner… love interest…. Or provides her ice… or something?

Umm…okay, am I the only one who is thinking this, but when the hell did Cutting Edge 2 come out? The only movies that make me more angry than remakes are direct to DVD sequels. Honestly, what is with studios releasing DTV and crappy sequels to our beloved cult fave films? I’m not at ALL interested in this project. Just like I wasn’t interested in watching Jonathan Schaech in ‘RoadHouse 2’, or watching Treat Williams in ‘The Substitute’ sequels. I’d wish they stop already.
Unfortunately with all the press surrounding the bound to suck ‘The Lost Boys’ DTV sequel, expect more of these to come. (They better not do a DTV sequel to my fave film, Weird Science. I will scream!!)

  1. But don’t you think this one will be interesting since the girl is like a hockey player and the guy is a figure skater haha.

Plus yeah, Christy Romano and Matt Lanter are going to be there.

  2. The Cutting Edge!? I completely forgot about that movie…its so underrated!! That Matt Lanter seems pretty cute..so I definetly wanna tune to see him out on the ice!

  3. I love Christy Carlson Romano and I also loved both of the first Cutting Edge movies. I am a sucker for romantic comedies, so they are right up my alley! I can’t wait to see the third one!

  4. I think all the Cutting Edge movies have been cute! Anyone agree with me?? I loved Christy Carlson Romano in The Cutting Edge 2 and she also appears in The Cutting Edge 3, Does anyone remember her from Even Stevens??

  5. FYI

“Cutting Edge 2” was a lame MADE FOR CABLE film for ABC family. Go ahead…ASK ME what these jokers did.

The original was set in 1992 (film’s release) the plot of Cutting Edge two has thier offspring, 20 years later, compete for medals. She can’t get along with her male partner, but the two…oh, take a wild guess…anyway, the TV film was made in early 2006, and released by New Line on DVD later that year.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Something isn’t quite right. Don’t ask questions, I will tell no lies. As if DB Sweeney or Moria Kelly was tied up in other things, they were replaced with other actors. Kelly was replaced with Stephanie Kramer of TV’s ‘Hunter’ fame.

BTW, I sort of did like Substitutes 2 and 3 and…4 (!) better that Substitute 1. But then again, Claudia Christian was in one of them, Angie Everhart in another. Strangely, the only two DTV series I ever liked at all were Tremors, Hellraiser, Ginger Snaps and Sniper. Probably because they continued a story, the first (theatrical) film’s characters….and had the same actors.

I tried getting into Darkman 2 and 3….and oddly Serena….were you not singing praise over Russell Wong in Prophecy 2 last week?

As for Wargames 2, I am…disappointed that they didn’t get Matthew Broderick back and GO theatrical. Imagine where the Broderick character would be today! Working for the DoD, running internet security as a white hat. But that, folks, would require thought.

  6. Not only is there a Cutting Edge 2, there is a part 3. I for one love direct to DVD sequels. yes some arn’t good, but most of them arn’t bad!! I can’t wait to see War Games 2!! I know it won’t be as good as the first one, but so what!! It might be good anyway!! Give theses movies a change!! You might be surprised!!

  8. I had just read the “Reeker” was getting a sequel, and that was a DTV that I actually have to admit to enjoying. Although I don’t know if that would meet the aforementioned criteria as it did start its life on the DTV shelves.

Of course there is the dreaded From Dusk Till Dawn sequels that I watched solely because I loved the first one so much. SOmehow I was able to hang on to my joy of the first one. Might have something to do with Santanico Pandemonium

  9. Weird Science was one of my first non-G rated movie experiences as a young lad. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

The TV show spinoff…not so much.

  10. LOL! As I was reading I asked myself the same question – There was a Cutting Edge 2?? I loved Cutting Edge it was a such a sweet and fun movie, which had me cheering at the end.

There is no way I would tarnish the good feeling the first movie left with me by watching lesser sequels.
