Blades Of Glory Tops DVD Chart

Blades-Glory-DvdI’m a fan of Will Ferrell, although I must admit that I’m starting to become kind of desensitized to him a bit. His last 2 comedies, Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory, I’ve found myself still enjoying, but not REALLY enjoying like I did with his previous efforts. I guess the problem is you can see where Ferrell is going… you can start to anticipate when he’s going to do something, and as a result, the effectiveness of his comedy is losing its “POW” factor.

Still, Blades of Glory was a fun little movie and Ferrell carried it… while Jon Header nearly killed it. It hit the dvd shelves this week and with no surprise it has taken the #1 spot on the DVD charts away from Wild Hogs (why the hell is ANYONE renting Wild Hogs?!?!)

But the thing is, even though I enjoyed Blades of Glory… probably even more than most people… I just feel no desire to run out and see it again. Is that because Blades of Glory is just a fun little throw away movie… or is it because Ferrell’s comedy just isn’t as potent as it was? Either way, I won’t be running out to grab this dvd… but I encourage you to pick it up if you haven’t seen it yet… it’s worth the 90 minutes.

The Will Ferrell comedy also bowed at No. 1 on trade publication Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the week, generating an estimated $9.5 million in revenue its first week in stores. The previous week’s top renter, “Wild Hogs,” slipped to No. 2 with $5.1 million. “Hogs” also gave up its top slot on the sales chart, which it had held for two weeks, to finish at No. 3, just ahead of fellow chart veterans “300,” at No. 4 and “Perfect Stranger,” at No. 5.

  1. It bugs me to no end that this DVD is doing so well when movies like The Wind That Shakes The Barley (winner at Cannes 2006) isn’t even carried at the local video stores. It was released this week also.

I don’t want to come across a movie snob but damn the general movie going population bugs me.
