UK Grindhouse Release Bumped

The Weinstein War Room is still strategizing about the proper way to Release Grindhouse internationally; today we hear that the UK release date has been put on hold until further notice. We get the story from the Webmaster of Might at filmjunk:

Officially the movie was planned for release on June 1st, with the same double feature format as North America. However, now it sounds like they are seriously considering splitting the two movies up (this approach has already been confirmed for the rest of the world as well), and they may also be rethinking the release date.

I am sad that Grindhouse is not doing well. It was such an awesome idea to have 2 movies back to back in the theatre in order to recreate an experience the Directors’ enjoyed as youngsters. Even though I was not a huge fan of Death Proof – I am still glad I got to see it as part of the event known as Grindhouse.

The day is full of sorrow for my friends in the UK, not only does it look like the movie will be split –the release date is also being moved. I would be pissed if I had to wait for a film that was released moons ago in North America. I hope independent UK theatres will take the initiative and offer both movies back to back for those that want to have a similar experience.

I just wonder if these films will be avaliable on one dvd for those that want to see it as it was intended. We will have to wait and see; right now I am guessing 3 dvd versions; 2 solo, 1 combined.

  1. from what I have read doug there is going to be a barebones dvd of the double feature version released and then possibly seperate dvds of each film…..tarantino is extending detah proof for cannes and I have no doubt that version will get a dvd release

  2. I had to go into London just to see Mulholland Drive.

Most of my locals just about show some indy films but you have to be pretty eagle eyed to find them.

Actually we do have a few independant theatres, just not many, and none near me.
