Arnofsky To Tell The Tale Of Noah

noah.jpgFrom the fountain of youth to Noah’s Ark! Arnofsky is currently working on a motion picture about the biblical character Noah. We get the crazy news from our compares at cinemablend:

But don’t expect a Biblical epic like The Ten Commandments. Come on, this is the guy who turned an oak tree into a spaceship and convinced Jennifer Connelly that to properly portray her character she’d have to take on a double dildo. Aronofsky’s take on Noah is one that involves lots of alcohol. He says, “Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk… It’s there in the Bible – it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor’s guilt going on there. He’s a dark, complicated character.”

This movie is going to rule on a lot of levels. I agree with Arnofsky that Noah is an interesting character. Noah not only had a drinking problem after saving humanity – he was a rape victim at the hands of his own daughters (they got him hammered!) and he became daddy/grandpa. That makes for good clean bible fun!

I imagine some will have a problem with the direction Arnofsky takes the film, and that is fine. Not only does it make for good publicity, it also makes for great episodes of The 700 Club. Pat Robertson will pass gallstones if Arnofsky gets crazy with this. The rest of us get to enjoy the drama.

I am looking forward to Arnofsky’s interpretation of this character. The cinemablend article goes on to say that Arnofsky has had a lifelong interest in the character; which is good new to me. When something is important to you – you do your best work.

  1. Hehe, Aronofsky is nothing short of a visionary. While I’m not a fan of biblical films, and thats usaly cuz they turn out borring as hell and stray too far from they’re original stories due to “family” appeal, leaving out all the good stuff that shows really how hard of times it was back then.

I do injoy the ones that leave nothing out, ala Passion of the Crist. And maybe even go even farther to really explore the lives of the characters involved and even what they’re thinking and going threw on an emotional level. Aronofsky it pretty good at fleshing out his stories and I don’t think he’ll disapoint with this one either. Exspeshaly since it sounds like he has so much passion for the Noah character. Can’t wait, controversy and all. ;P

  2. I LOVED Aronofsky’s films (didn’t see The Fountain; another great movie I had to miss, dammit!), and I have a keen interest in epic/religious-like films.

Hell, I liked The Last Temptation of Christ, and THAT film wasn’t just independently made by Martin F’N Scorsese~!, but a shitload of religious groups wanted that film destroyed. The reason:

A dream sequence has Jesus making out. TOP THAT~!

Goes to show, any controversy is a good one on movies based on religion. Remember The Da Vinci Code… sorry to remind you anyway.

Yes, Jesus made out in The Last Temptation. That’s why I found the film in a bookstore OUTSIDE of town! Scorsese and Aronofsky are great filmmakers, aren’t they.
