JJ Abrams still Directing Star Trek

Like John on a Battlestar Galactica rant, the rumours flying around the net about JJ Abrams leaving the next Star Trek Movie project are loud, rampant, and out of control. Harry tries his best to keep things under control.

AICN.comreports:

Hey folks, Harry here… 2 days ago I got sent a “SCOOP: JJ ABRAMS IS OFF STAR TREK MOVIE” rumor. Well, thanks to my interview with JJ back around the time of MI3 that I did for Penthouse, I had JJ’s contact info and sent his Blackberry a, “Is this BS or not” email. JJ wrote back in about 20 minutes with a one word response, ‘False!” – I then wrote him back to say, “Well, heads up, somebody is trying to spread that rumor.” – I then wrote the scooper back to say JJ says it ain’t so. Shortly later, JJ responded with, “Haha!”

So its not true, apparently.

Either way, I like the idea of Abrams on it, I just wish they would decide on a direction.

Reboot the Trek. It’s dead Jim.

  1. You can’t really say much about what Abrams did or didn’t do with MI:III since it was a Cruise/Wagner flick and they’re notorious for controlling everything right down to making the director live over Tom’s garage during pre-production. That’s apparently what spooked Joe Carnahan off MI:III.

Nicholas Myer probably did the best two films of the Trek franchise, but that’s not really saying much. They’ve all sucked. They all play like episodes of the old Batman TV series. Both of those movies have moments in them that are so bad that they’ve become joke material for decades. I’ve seen Jon Stewart do the “Khan!!!” scream before and of course Homer Simpson has done it, too.

  2. But then again…

Havent Orci and Kurtzman pretty much said it’s gonna be a prequel?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isnt that exactly what they’re saying here.

    Go to movies.ign.com

articles/711/711774p1 and put a .html at the end

  3. The direction is just as big of a rumour as McAvoy being involved.

Obviously they will have to hinge this on Abrams direction. We assume a reboot (its what JJ wants too) but nothing is in stone yet.

  4. I like that JJ is involved.
I think he can breath some much needed life into this franchise.

It could be worse, Renny Harlin could be attached.

I hate myself for saying that.
The Long Kiss Goodnight, Cliffhanger and The Adventures of Ford Fairlaine are some of my favorite movies.

And I think we already know the direction it’s heading, what with a young Scotty suppossedly already cast in the form of James McAvoy.
The prequel is the way of Trek’s future whether we like it or not.
I just hope… nah… I’m just going to keep an open mind.
