The July 4th weekend was going to be an interesting one. Not interesting in the sense that we didn’t know who was going to win the fight between Die Hard 4 and The Transformers (Because Transformers was going to kick the shit out of Die Hard 4), but the reality is, that opening on the exact same day was going to hurt both of them (hurt DIe Hard more… but they still would have hurt Transformers too).
Well, it looks like the expensive game of Chicken is over. Die Hard 4 has blinked and moved off of July 4th and is now opening June 29th (at least according to the official website. This is a VERY smart move on their part… but honestly I didn’t think they were going to move. Glad to see they did.
So there you have it, July 4th is now the sole property of The Transformers for this demographic. If the trailers continue to look good, it’s going to have a MONSTER opening weekend. Break records even.

i am a big fan of the movie die hard, and i cant wait to see it..
Im just teasing (sort of), because I know John Campea is looking forward to this movie so much.
I do think it is kinda childish though, and it’ll never compare to the original Die Hard. They just dont make action movies for adults anymore.
Victor, actors ain’t exactly the main thing in Transformers for me. If they do Optimus Prime and all other main bot characters right I could care less about human characters.
Jonesy, Transformers is more for the children than Die Hard, yeah, but look – those guys who watched original cartoon back in 80s are now grown-ups. Die Hard now has very similar audience with Transformers. There aren’t much of those people who see 2 movies in the theatre at the same day.
Ok Die Hard 4 is going to be a nice R rated movie with nice R rated action and not to mention its not going to be about some fucking robots. Transformers movie is by far the dumbest thing ever. Look at the cast it has almost no good actors. I mean it has 2Fast2Furious’s Tyreese Gibson
The kid from Holes (one of the only good actors) Jon Voit (the other good actor compleating the list) and then some girl that was in See No Evil. Fuck The Transformers not to mention its made by the Perl Harbor guy….

Transformers is for children, Die Hard is for adults, so Transformers probably will make more money. Die Hard may even be rated R.

Oh, apparently Die Hard didn’t have the balls to compete against Transformers. I personally thought Transformers should move off the release because July 4th was significant for DH4 because of its plot. I hope Transformers will open on July 4th not only in North America but worldwide, too.

Its definitely a good move. Hopefully Transformers will make more money then what it cost to make it and given the advantage that it opens on a Wednesday.
Smart move on DH4’s part. Transformers is the new kid in town and would definitely be the preferred pick of the two. DH4 would get the spillover plus, well, the diehard fans.
