Transformers Teaser Trailer is Here

The Transformers teaser trailer is here. Thanks to the hundreds of people who emailed me about it this morning. It was funny… I woke up… checked my email and was like WTF!??!?! Ok so the Transformers trailer… my thoughts….

You can see the trailer in big beautiful full screen mode here.

The trailer is fantastic… no doubt about it… it really is top notch and Michael Bay delivered on his boast from a couple of days ago. It definitely sends the message that this isn’t some little toy movie. Good tension, a good amount of “awe” to it. Yes, a great trailer. However…

In my opinion it wasn’t enough. It needed a bit more to convert people who have already made up their minds against this movie. I could be wrong, but that’s my first gut instinct about it. We’ll have to wait and see. For now… get your ass on over and check out THE FIRST TRANSFORMERS TEASER TRAILER.

  1. I think the human element of the movie is going to suck ie I think the human story and acting is going to be a but cheesy and b-grade performances

however, I think the CGI side of the movie is going to rock and will look awesome

  2. And now that I’ve had time to stew in it, I’ve become worried. It LOOKS great, no doubt, but this is a Michael Bay production. Personally, I don’t despise him like some people do. Pearl Harbor sucked, never saw The Rock, and I’ll admit to watching Armageddon when they show it on TNT every damn weekend, but I wouldn’t buy Armageddon on DVD. Is this going to be some cheesefest like Armageddon with stupid one-liners? Hell, look at the cast! Tyrese(can’t count how many times he said bro in 2F2F), Shia Labouf(sucked in I Robot), and Bernie Mac and Anthony Anderson(loudmouth comics). The trailer has a dark, serious feel to it, but hell, remember that fucked up Mary Poppins trailer that Campea had on the site a while back? Anything can look creepy with the right music and quick cuts. I’m not about to declare a flame war, but it’s still too early to call.

  3. the transformer that’s getting out of the pool with the girl is PRIME, i’ve look at the stills over at http://www.tfw2005.com and the face IS prime, with faceplate and everything!!

and is it an easter egg that the girl is holding a my little pony?

i believe they came out about the same time as the G1 series

  4. My jaw dropped open as I watched this trailer, each and every time I watched it.

I watch alot of film trailers, this delivers, it delivers big time – I dont know what others expected but I dont think we could have asked for more.

I had very little interest in this movie before yesterday, now I cant wait to see it.

The trailer looked so dark and intense, I cant wait

  5. I don’t give a fuck what the hell any of you think that was AMAZING. Whatever doubts I had just got washed away now I’m as pumped as ever. OMG and TRANSFORMERS in all their glory I can’t wait. Following what might have been the worst movie summer on record it may be followed by the single greatest movie summer ever. I can’t wait I want my ticket now.

  6. I just shat meself!!!

That movie will be the kickass movie we are expecting…Don’t you worry about it. I don’t think Bay, and especially Spielburg, want to lose out to Spiderman or POTC…

I can’t wait until Friday to see it on the big screen!!!

  7. My favorite bit is the whole Blackout part. It’s so fucking cool when he sends the sonic boom and blows everything around him away. The Transformer smashing trough the bus was Bonecrusher which looked amazing.

  8. First and foremost, It’s a teaser

It did and showed exactly what it should have.

    Secondly…

I friggin’ loved it. I know what you’re saying Alfie, big surprise.
I can absolutely tell from that glimpse that I’m going to love it. I got goosebumps.
It looks like I thought it should look. They move like I thought they should move. What more can I say… it’s just wonderful. CGI = wonderful. Color palette = wonderful. Cinematography = wonderful. Love it, love it, love it.

    2 Favorite shots –
The over-the-shoulder shot of Optimus transforming and whoever that was smashing through the bus.

    Alfie,
I’m sorry brother but it looks like my lofty expectations are gonna be met with gusto. Hurry up, July.

  9. HOLY CRAP!!!! AWESOME x 10000gazillionbillion???
wtf is it with transformers i have NEVER watched a teaser trailer to something like 30 times in a row. but i cant stop watching this, they look frikin real man. Optimus Prime is out there now man as far as im concerned.

  10. Okay…

HOLY GODDAMN SON OF A FUCKING AWESOME SHIT!!!!!!!!

Transformers: The Movie is my guilty pleasure; this may be my favorite movie EVER! Shit, the effects look less CGI and a bit more real! With all due respect to the many good movies coming in 2007, but I’m celebrating Independence Day on this movie like one motherfuckin’ Star Wars fanboy.

Man, so many good movies this 2007… the Blockbuster Wars has begun!

  11. Campea has posted on it before but Bay is the perfect director for this picture. If you look at the films he’s done they’re all but in the seat balls to the wall action. not heavy on the plot but Big on the action and effects. That’s exactly what the transformers needs. It’s not meant to be an oscar winning film. It just needs stuff transforming into giant robots who proceed to kick the crap out of each other and wipe out cities on the way.

I really liked the teaser. They showed just enough of the transformations to make me say “That’s awesome” but not enough to give it all away. They showed exactly what they needed to show to tease the movie. no big plot points, just giant F’ing Robots scaring humans and a few big explosions.

John – will we get an audio edition just based on this trailer? That would be fun!

  12. CLAP CLAP CALP. Micheal Bay may have just revived his career. Would I have liked to see more in the trailer? Yes. It’s nowhere close to being the best trailer ever. However I don’t want to watch the whole movie in one trailer. Ahem!(Casino Royale). Furthermore anyone interested in toys or comics who says they aren’t going to see this on July 4th weekend is a liar. I don’t care it you hate Bay or not, IT”S FUCKING TRANSFORMERS.

  13. john and everybody

I know it’s too early to tell but you think alot of people will see this out of the curiosity factor, or will this be steady like pirates was.

I only say this cause I know people who’ll watch this movie off of the name alone. I dunno I think trailers are supposed to hype you up beyond belief, but I just don’t see it translating to kids watching it like how prirates did

  14. Well, it didn’t give me that “in aww” feeling I was hopping for like the first time I saw the Jurassic Park trailer, but it is just a teaser. Although still I wanted a part that was longer then the other clips that would just really show me a nice glipse of how huge in scale Bay clames this movie is going to be.

I also really miss the old transforming sound the Transformers make when they change form. I don’t know why they’re leaving that out, kind of makes me sad.

But other then that, it is an awsome trailer. But I was already set to be there on opening day for this movie before they even started production on it. >_Well, it didn’t give me that “in aww” feeling I was hopping for like the first time I saw the Jurassic Park trailer, but it is just a teaser. 15. I thought the trailer was ok, did everything a teaser is supposed to do

I want to see the transformers speak personally, thats whats going to make or break the movie. like if a robot says “oww” or struggle w/ something i’ll be laughing my ass off.

the SPX was alright, alot dark scenes, which SPX always looks good in the dark. I gotta see more of the desert scenes to get me going

  16. Remember guy this is only a teaser so you wont see that much anyway.
I’ve been waiting for this film to come out since transformers started and now they can pull off cgi for this sort of thing is in my opinion AWSOME the trailer is better than expected i didnt think we would see much of the transformers but the teaser is packed with them, so come july 4th 2007 you people that hate micheal bay and dont rate this film will go into hiding because this movie WILL break records so john campea give me a mention coz im with you all the way on this one.

  17. Yeah Yahoo made it work; lovely stuff. You could definately see that they were holding back on the really cool stuff. There’s probably little to nothing from the climax in the trailer.

  18. I was excited about this before but a few things were holding me back from being an excited schoolgirl. I’m sold. I’m happy to see that they’ve given us a little taste of the Transformers while not really giving us too much. I like the fade to back and then back so you only get a little gleam of the transformers each time. Nice touch. I think it’s a great teaser.

  19. Just watched the trailer a few more times and it still doesn’t give me a nerdrection. I’m mean I think I felt it move, but that’s probably due to the young hottie…man does she ever have great head-face.

  20. Get this. You see 3 army guys running from the decepticon. I was thinking Black dude is ROADBLOCK and his 2 pose are falcon and duke from G.I. Joe. Hey its doable G.I. Joe Vs Transformers the sequal to Transformers. They already have the comics out :-)Ahhhhh Yall just dont like my creativity.

  22. Shadowfax,

I never said action and a good story couldn’t go together. I’m say for those particular movies you mentioned (The Island, for example) were lost cause scripts. Therefore, hiring Bay to direct was a good choice for them, because it made them more than what they could have been.

I’m not saying there weren’t other options, either. Perhaps you think it would have been better if the movies weren’t even written in the first place.

Spielberg is not an action director. He has directed a few action films (Indiana Jones at least, Jaws and Jurassic Park weren’t really action movies). Every one of those films, though, had more substance to it than Bay’s repretoire, which is what Spielberg does better with. Imagine if Spielberg had directed The Island or Armageddon, and also why he isn’t directing Transformers when he had the chance. Those movies need someone with action flavor to add any sort of hope to those films. Michael Bay, as ugly as his movies may be in terms of plot or character, has a knack for spicing up action.

  23. Newdealers,

The update to BumbleBee was reportedly due to VW’s refusal to license the Bug for the movie. I may be wrong, but that was the rumor for a while. Can someone confirm this?

Regardless of anything else, I saw a giant robot punch through a bus on the highway. That is enough for me to buy a ticket. I have faith in Bay on this picture, even if his characters are/seem hollow, they are almost always LIKABLE. His heroes tend to be fun to watch, even if they’re not the most tortured or deep people, and I remember that in THE ROCK, I am still always really surprised at how much I really like and care about Ed Harris’ character and his mission, even though he is the villain, every time I watch it.

  24. Kneon – ‘While it looked like a pretty decent sci-fi movie, it just felt like every trailer I’ve seen for every alien/disaster flick since ID4’

I absolutely agree. Whilst good it was a bit cliche ridden, scenes and actions that could’ve been taken from movie x, y and z.

Ho hum… excitement has gone down a touch… but is still high.

  25. WolfMarauder,

Directors do NOT have to sacrifice a strong plot and strong acting in order to have a successful action film. Take Spielberg for example…
Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and Munich were all movies with significant action scenes and yet most would consider all of them to be terrific films. Contrast Saving Private Ryan with Bay’s WWII movie Pearl Harbor and their is absolutely no comparison. Spielberg is one director who can maintain powerful action sequences and not lose any ground in the plot or dramatic sequences.
I agree that Transformers is a perfect movie for Bay to direct… but that may not necessarily be a good thing.

  26. As someone who doesn’t have a back history of Transformers fandom along for the viewing, was I the only one who thought “War of the Worlds” vibe from the teaser trailer? It seems they’re selling it as ‘humans survive alien machines on earth’ instead of telling the story from the Transformers viewpoint. I recognized Optimus Prime, but that was about it. Otherwise, it seemed like just another cool action movie trailer. Even though I was so-so on the Die Hard 4 teaser, if I had to pick one on a weekend based on these trailers, I’d go see Die Hard 4.

And for those not wanting to install more software just to see it, you can watch it in Macromedia Flash here

  27. Shadowfax – this is because Michael Bay is an action director. The best parts of those films were the action sequences. You may think they had bad acting and bad scripts, but if they were under the command of a less action-savvy director, they’d be even worse movies. At least Bay made scenes in those movies entertaining. Armageddon is a guilty pleasure of mine; I don’t like it because I think it’s a good story, I like it because it impresses me every time I watch it from an action standpoint. It’s very difficult to get that good at over-the-top action. For these reasons, Transformers is a PERFECT movie for Bay to direct.

  28. I loved the Transformer toys, but other than that I don’t know anything about them. I don’t even know which one is Optimus Prime. That said, the trailer looks pretty good. The “A Michael Bay Film” postcript was kind of dumb. All the movies he’s directed have done absolutely nothing for me (Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island) and he has a history of making movies with poor acting and poor plot lines. They’d sell it better using just the Transformers name for their marketing. The fact that Spielberg has something to do with it is enough to make me watch it in and of itself. Will it be a good movie? I’m sure it’ll be entertaining but if Michael Bay’s history tells us anything he may earn another Golden Rasberry nomination. One thing this movie will NOT do is break any records whatsoever. Not good ones at least.

  29. Before everyone starts whining about how they didn’t get to hear the Transformers talk or whatever(oh, you’re already complaining, too late), do keep in mind that this is just a teaser. Pardon the following filthy analogy, but it’s like a chick that flashes her thong at you but doesn’t actually fuck you. This teaser is a thong flash. The full trailer that will come out in a few months will be your cum shot.

That being said, that shot of the teddy bear girl and the thing coming out of the pool was BOSS.

  30. Hate to be negative….I agree, a few words from Prime would have been awesome, too many fades. They showed some of the actors, but the scenes were too short, wait did anyone of the main human characters even talk? just watched it again, they don’t. Anyway, the opening reminds me of superman when he first arrives, there’s a scene on the highway that didn’t impress me. The Prime shot would have been cool if it wasn’t shown from a fucked up angle. The helicopter scene was probably the best. Something about the dessert scene, and the sneak up on the soldier reminds me of Starship Troopers….and the pool scene…can’t quite put my finger on it, why does ET come to mind…not sure, not a bad scene though. Other than that, I’m sure this movie will kick ass, seriously, should be an awesome flick. I hope the humans, and lack of acting experience doesn’t hurt it.

  31. I agree with Triflic.
The fade to black after every scene is the beginning of the trailer was distracting and annoying.

In my opinon, it was a typical Michael Bay trailer, and I don’t know why I was expecting something more, but I was. The action looks good and I’ll be there on opening day, but this trailer didn’t overly excite me.

  32. The robots (what we saw of them) looked awesome, however this trailer didn’t do it for me. It needed some kick ass, rip the heart out of my chest music to put it over the top. I certainly didn’t feel the need to clap at the end as all the Michael Bay yes men did.

    I give it a 7.5 out of 10…could have been a 9 with a soundtrack.

  33. I was not impressed, the use of nearly 100 fade-to-black transitions seemed like they were hiding uncompleted sfx work rather than establishing mood (mood = Michael Bay, no doubts there…lots of vehicular tossing!)

Anyway, I did not feel very teased with the trailer, rather disappointed, and my expectations were low.

Somehow my inner child has tuned out, when Giant Robots don’t get anticipatory juices flowing!

  34. Thank you god! That just made my year. But, to those who noticed…
Yahoo.com lists the new release date as July 24th, and the trailer only says July. If indeed it has been pushed back, is it in anyway due to Die Hard 4 ?

  35. God damn it. In decades of computers why the hell don’t we have a regular standard for codecs and players on video playback? Audo is just as bad.

I don’t know what this “Vividas Player” junk is but I’ve tried to view this twice now and it crashes my PC every time.

Why not just use Quicktime. Every other trailer on the planet uses Quicktime, the one I actually REALLy want to see uses some crazy crap that I’ve never heard of.

I guess I’ll just have to wait untill someone rips it to Youtube or Google video.

  36. come on people!! “didn’t do it for me”??? please what does a trailer have to do to “do it for you”? suck your dick??

this had everything i wanted in it! and not too much action to spoil the movie!! it’s gonna be awesome, i hope the dark feel of it continues in the move, man i think i’m gonna see this trailer fifty times before the day is through!!!

    the point is,

    IT LOOKS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!

    can’t wait

    bert

  37. I think I was hoping for more. I want to get excited over this movie, I really do, but I’m afraid the trailer didn’t do it for me. I thought “that looks ok.” Will I be there opening day? Probably not. Not unless another kick-ass trailer comes along to change my opnion. Will I see it at a matinee on the cheap? Sure I will.

  38. That trailer was smokin! cannot wait for this movie to come out.
Did anyone else notice that when you see the autobots travelling in convoy there looks like there could be more autobots in the movie than previously mentioned?

  39. Not being a fan of the liberties taken with the franchise, I was really, REALLY hoping this trailer would make me a believer. While it looked like a pretty decent sci-fi movie, it just felt like every trailer I’ve seen for every alien/disaster flick since ID4. Nothing really screamed THE F*CKIN’ TRANSFORMERS ARE BACK! COMMENCE THE PANTS WETTING!

The best scene was the robot coming out of the pool, but even it reminded me of the T-Rex in the backyard from The Lost World.

    Meh.

  40. I think it is very wise of them to not show more of the Transformers.
In my opinion trailers give away far too much these days.
Keep the look of the Transformers secret until the movie opens, just show quick hints and flashes of them. People will burst out of anticipation and buy their tickets opening day, just to see the damn robots in full glory.
Same with Venom in Spiderman 3. Thats the thing EVERYBODY is interested in. If you give it away in a trailer, the excitement is gone. If they keep the secret they have a huge opening weekend. You can read as much reviews if you want, you have to go to the theatre, pay for your ticket and see the fucking film for yourself to know what the Transformers/Venom look like, reviews can describe it, but they can’t show it.
And John, stop bitching! We all know you are going to be in line opening day anyway.

  41. i’ve never been a transformers fan or owned any of the toys. the trailer did not do anything for me the only thing that caught my eye was the hot chic, wow. she’s gonna be a star.

personally, i think the cgi is so good and realistic that it no longer impresses me, like when terminator 2, lotr and star wars fx did.

so, it’s gonna take a lot more to impress me when it comes down to special fx.

i hope and i’m sure a lot of people will enjoy the trailer.

    happy holidays everyone

  42. I was suprised with how “dark” the trailer felt, I didnt expect that, but I really liked it. It felt intense and about as serious as “giant robots from space” can be without getting stupid. I have been pretty reserved in my expectations for this movie, but I just got pretty amped about it after seeing this.
