Justin Long isn’t a Mac

I have to say I just cant get enough of Justin Long. He was geeky/cool in GalaxyQuest. Hell, I even liked him in Herbie. The guy just has that quality that everyone sees a little of themselves in. He even made Macintosh look hip. But not for Long! (see what I did there… ? )

Wired Reports

A rep for Long confirms that his days as an Apple pitchman are over: “Every ad you see Justin in is for that previous time period only,” she tells Radar. “There’s no long-term deal with him.” She adds (somewhat implausibly, perhaps), “Justin’s a movie star, not a commercial guy.”

I am glad to see that he is stepping it up. I had thought he was going to turn into another “April ONeil” appearing in Turtles and then disappearing into an impressive stretch of TV commercials.

As my friend Sam says,“I say the commercial needs some intimidating stars to reflect the intimidating arguments pro-Mac and pro-PC people are always flinging at each other in heated OS wars. Let’s have Alan Rickman to play the Mac, Christopher Walken to play the PC, and let ’em scare the bejesus out of everybody. Then let users pick the lesser of two evils…”

Speculation says the likeable funny John Hodgman (the PC) might become the new Mac.

  1. That cocky bastard annoys me to no end on those Apple commercials. I’ll be glad when they get rid of him. Just stick to the stoner chick versions. I used to have an Apple ][ back in junior high school, but these ads make me want to NEVER buy an Apple and be classed with such pompous elitists.

For one, to say Macs never get system lockups is complete bullcrap. To say PC’s only come in boring beige cases means they don’t have a clue of what Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Dell, or dozens of other manufacturers have been making the last 5-6 years. To say Macs are the only exciting computers is oblivious to the fact they couldn’t play any of the hottest PC games for the past 10 years, until Bootcamp came out this year.

I could go on, but I need to take my meds now…

  2. I never understood the movie blogs love for this guy at all until I saw him in “the sasquatch dumpling gang”….

If you get a chance to see that film I suggest you do….It’s pretty funny but he is fucking amazing in it….it took me 20 minutes until I realised it was him. I now agree that the guy is great and has potential….

oh and he was good in the break up as well…..

  3. “I lost all concentration after you mentioned you actually watched Lindsay Lohan and “Herbie.” ”

I kept reading, then I lost respect when he said “He even made Macintosh look hip.”

Obvious argument aside – how old are you…? Do people still call Apple computers ‘Macintoshs’?

  4. I find a guilty pleasure in watching Lohan. I might have issues with her as a party animal starlet diva, but frankly I do enjoy the light fluffy roles she plays. And shes hot.

And Herbie wasnt the greatest movie, but I actually didnt mind it so much. I just wish they didnt actually animate the emotions into the bug. Half of Herbie’s personality was how he looked lifelike without doing anything a car “couldnt” (wheelies, splitting in half etc)

Besides, Lohan aside, the movie had a decent cast. Keaton, Dillon and Long? Not too shabby.
