Remake of Friday the 13th should be out by 2007

friday.jpgJason lives! Or at least he will once all of the litigations are finished. The folks over at bloody-disgusting.com gave us this, but please be aware the information is of the hearsay variety:

B-D reader ‘xerotheory7803′ sent in this little update on New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes’ delayed Friday the 13th project. Xero tells B-D, “I just got back from the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Jersey and got a little bit of news to share with you. After the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning’ Panel, I was talking with Andrew Form, one of the producers who is also producing the new ‘Friday The 13th’, and he said that the remake, which is tied in a rights battle right now, should be in theaters by July 2007. He also exclaimed that they will fight to the bitter end to make sure it is released with an R rating, no PG-13 bullshit for Jason Voorhees.” We’ve also heard some positive rumbling here in Los Angeles and hope to have some big news for you soon!

Wow has it been that long already? Well the original Friday the 13th was made in 1980, and yeah, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that twenty six years may in fact be long enough for a remake.

This is a classic horror movie and I am curious to see if the movie makers can do it justice. It’s going to be difficult, to me the eighties had a real lock on fear and tension. But if this movie is made I will watch it.

How about everyone out there? Do you think this remake has the potential to surpass the original? Is this something you’re excited about seeing? Or do you wish it were only a nightmare…

  1. ya i really hope that this remake is alot better then freddy vs jason, i mean it was ok but kinda corny but ya and they need to bring kane hodder in for this one as well because he knows what hes doing and it just wouldn’t be the same without him.

  2. I mean Besty Palmer had was a better actress than Paula Shaw. And nobody can replace Adrinne King i mean she chopped off Mrs. Voorhees head and she had a great role as Alice Hardy. And Robbi Morgan was also had a great role she played the girl Annie who got killed by Mrs. Voorhees.

  3. Kane Hodder has to play Jason, or it just won’t work. I’ve been a fan since the very first movie, and I’m afraid they’ll screw a remake up like they have so many others(The Hitcher). Hodder has the menacing body language down, and for a character that doesn’t speak, that’s important. If not, I hope they don’t choose the guy from Freddy Vs. Jason. He was too tall, too thin, and didn’t know shit about body language. Bring Kane back!

  4. Remakes can be annoying, but honestly, its just an excuse to put a large man in a hockey mask armed with a machette in the woods klling horny teens.

    Im all for that.

  5. I am a long time devoted fan of these movies. I even have a Jason tattoo on my forearm for christsakes, and I ask this, Why fix something that isnt broken? With all these crappy remakes out like the TCMs, and the upcoming Day of the Dead, They should just make another Jason movie. The storyline hasn’t been straight for years, so what? Jason in space as Super Jason, So what? Jason is a Horror Icon. People just want to see him go out and whoop some ass. I’ll go see it but, I for one, am totally against a remake. I just pray to god for 3 things, 1, that they dont make a mockery of themselves like the people did with the last two Child’s play movies. 2, that they DO NOT LET RONNY YU DIRECT IT, and I can’t stress that enough. 3, They cast Kane Hodder back. He is definatley the best Jason…..Ever. He really digged in to his role and took it seriously. If they screw this one up I’m getting my Jason tattoo removed. -Nick Strasheim S.D.M.F.

  6. I can wait for this. With digital effects being what they are and this film being as loved as it is, if they get it right it should be worse than a snuff film. Jason is a serial killers wet dream. He is also the ruiner of many of my dreams as a child. Why torment another generation with his evil? I also doubt there will be any gratuitous sex in it, or 30 year olds playing high school kids. So wheres the fun?

  7. I’ve only seen the original a few times and I’m pretty much on the fence about remakes, especially ones that have potential to be darn entertaining. My concern is that if they plan to hit theatres by July 07 and it’s already nearly the end of ’06 it’s not enough time to make a decent film. There’s been lots of talk about this re-make recently but I doubt that 07 is an attainable release date.

  8. I AM SO SICK OF REMAKES

why does Hollywood do this……For me this a remake of Friday the 13th is a nightmare . This was one of those film. I would watch over and over with my friends as kids. For then to make a Fu#$king remakes makes me sick. Show me one more time that Hollywood is full of capitalism just out there to make a quick $$$$$ and it is not about art anymore.Like this Friday the 13th story and stop making Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. They will NEVER have the same magic as the 1974 film by Tobe Hooper. Blah

  9. Also, Joey, don’t forget the Kevin Bacon factor. A little bit of Bacon goes a long way, especially when he’s getting stabbed through the neck with an arrow.

  10. The original is a classic in my book. Shoe string budget, minimal special effects and a reliance on suspense to give you the jolts.

Outside of “The Thing” I rank the original as one of my all-time favorite horror flicks.

  11. That’s right, Wolf.

Jason is not only in flashback, he isn’t the killer.
To add insult to injury, he didn’t have his Hockey Mask until part 3.
[note: he also didn’t appear in one of the sequels; it was a copycat killer]

It also sounds from Sharon’s report, that Sean Cunningham is NOT involved in this; hence the “rights” battle, and if “all goes well” it will be in theatres in July 2007. Ho Ho Ho. If you don’t have the “rights”…

Well, hey, I’m going to re-make “this movie” and I’ll get in theatres next year despite having no script, director or cast…and well, I don’t have the rights yet, but…oh yeah, it’s going to be an R, not a PG-13…I will fight like hell to make it an R [as if one or more of the 13th films had a G rating or something…]

See my point, here? Who does this guy think he is?

I predict that Sharon will have a long wait for this to happen, unless she is secretly hoping for a phone call to appear in the film as a half naked victim whose dialog consists of calling out the previous victim’s name while looking for such person.

  12. So, have they made this film already? Is the remake actually ‘in the can’, as I believe they say in Hollywoodland? If not, how on earth is this thing going to be ready for release in nine months? Don’t films take longer than that to make, what with all that CGI the kids like these days?

Was every one of those sentences a question?
