We haven’t heard much from Mel Gibson over the last little while (for obvious reasons). As far as I’m concerned the guy should be in jail for risking killing people and himself for driving drunk… but oh well… the laws in North America are totally screwed when it comes to stuff like that. But now Mel is out and about again screening his new film Apocalypto, which I’m dying to see by the way.
Love or hate Mel Gibson, you have to admire a guy who puts his own neck and money on the line with his projects. He seems to do films these days that people love telling him won’t work and that people will avoid seeing in the theaters. It’s neat seeing a guy make his own movie, with his own money and have no one to answer to.
The film is only really “half done” as Gibson puts it, but he’s decided to get out and show the rough edit to a variety of different people groups to get their input. Good idea. As so far from all the response I’ve read, people are enjoying this flick… even the rough edit alone.
Right now AICN has an audio file up with Mel Gibson talking about the film. It’s pretty good actually and I was riveted listening to it. He doesn’t just talk about the technical issues of filmmaking, but rather the cultural and societal meanings and theories behind everything. It’s a good listen.

FOR THE RECORD. I really like Mel, Consider Braveheart my all time favorite movie. I even saw the Passion once. I am probably wrong but I saw the trailer yesterday before Fearless and think this movie is going to Suck! Oh lord this movie does not look appealing, it may be a big production with authentic costumes and amazing sets. However, I just don’t want to watch a bunch off people with bones in there face getting killed. That’s basically all the trailer showed. What am I missing, what is the story?

Hey, if anyone watches LOST, on the bonus disc for the second season there is a quick, special featurette on Apocalypto. It’s mostly Mel Gibson talking about what the story is about and how he feels about it. It also shows some behind the scenes stuff and clips from the movie.
Maybe this is the same audio they have at AICN that you mentioned. Not sure. Just an FYI.
