The first Flags of our Fathers trailer has hit the web. The new Clint Eastwood war film that looks at the story of the 6 men who raised up the American Flag at Iwo Jima. Here’s a quick synopsis of the film:
Flags of Our Fathers is based on a New York Times Bestseller book (year 2000) of the same name and is about a man’s quest to learn more about his father, a medical corpsman in WWII at the Battle of Iwo Jima. More than 22,000 Japanese soldiers would die defending a patch of ground a third the size of Manhattan, while nearly 26,000 Americans fell taking it from them. The battle, the largest sea armada invasion ever assembled and the costliest war ever fought by the US Marines, was also a turning point in the war because control of the island of Iwo Jima (Japanese territory) allowed Allied forces to launch B-29 bomber raids into the heart of Japan with the eventual dropping of the Atomic Bomb that would end WWII.
The Flags of our Fathers trailer is in Japanese, but the feel of it is just amazing. I’m looking forward to it.

On AICN it says Red Sun, Black Sand will be released in December as well. It looks like an awesome movie.
Red Sun probably in January.
According to the trailer, the Japanese release date for “Flag of Our Fathers” is October 28 and for “Red Sun, Black Sand” (called “Letters from Iwo Jima” in Japanese) is December 9.
Yahoo Movies gives a North American release dates of October 20 for Flag of Our Fathers, but no date for Red Sun.
As for the movies… Wow, after that trailer I’m really looking forward to these films. I love how Eastwood is using two movies to tell the same story but from opposite sides of the battle.
Flags of our Fathers as of now is heavily favored for best picture, best actor, best director awards. It would be funny though if RED SUN, BLACK SAND is a better picture.
Looks like there are some amazingly good film coming out in the fall(my favorite part of the movie season)
LOL Ok, i didn’t know about the 2 movies thing. When I saw that the trailer was in Japanese I was thinking “I can’t see this movie as going over real well in Japan…”
Really waiting for this movie!!! It’s Clint Eastwood so it’s chances of being great are huge!!

I think he had couple of cancelled TV-shows after BoB. Boomtown was the other… other was some kind of medical drama with viruses etc.
Looks great – is this Eastwood’s first time directing large-scale action sequences? Will be interesting to see how he copes with that…
Also saw Neal McDonough in there – been wondering what happened to him post-Band of Brothers and Minority Report, he looked like he could become a talented character actor.

These just became my most anticipated movies of this year.
It reminded me of Band of Brothers, which is definitely a good thing. It’s produced by Spielberg so that explains it.
Is Eastwood still going to do two films – one from the American perspective, and one from the Japanese? I thought that was a pretty interesting idea.
