Daniel Radcliffe Speculates the Death Of Potter

Harry-Potter-DiesA lot of people are speculating that Harry Potter will die at the end of the seventh book in the series. I hope he does… not because I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan… but because that would be a great ending to the franchise and a very gutsy move on the part of Rowling.

Even Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is throwing his two cents worth behind the idea of a dead Potter. The good folks over at Digital Spy give us this:

He (Radcliffe) told the Daily Record: “It may be the only way the evil Voldemort could be killed is if Harry dies, because there is a strong connection between them.”

I agree with him. But for that to REALLY work, they have to make Voldemort a lot more menacing than he has been. In the movies he just feels like another typical bad guy, instead of this ominous dread that he’s supposed to be. If they can better portray him… then an ultimate sacrifice ending to destroy him would be amazing. Just a thought.

  1. I think rowling is too clever and too smart to kill harry so easily. If she kills him, his death would be measured and juncture. If she kills harry, it will not be the way which everybody thinks… itd be something different and unthought. Id love to read it now…like everybody….and I hope Rowlingll write the end – super unique like were seasoned to…
Anyway, mentioned above, I dont like harry- ginny quick-split relationship. I dont believe these two peopleve got common future. Between them, it was too glance and slick. i dont count harrys feelings about ginny, but the way how it was written… “falling” and blank
I am one of these people, who believe in harry-hermiona partnership and love….
Anyway, i love jkrowling work, which shes doing pretty well, and I appreciate her job. Any end she decides id love… i hope there will be lot of fun, fantasy and action ooo

  2. Even though killing off harry would be a nice way to end the series because of it being their last year at hogwarts it would also be nice if she gives harry a chance to find love and have a family….outside of hogwarts

  3. ok.. harry who had the orphaned..lost..get kicked around life for so long dies??? yeah..jk has no heart? dont think so. he will kill the dark lord, and jk will write about his future and everyone else’s so nobody can progress them later… harry kills him..the scar will disappear…

  4. Rowling has never once said that she may very well kill him off. She said once that she could see why other authors killed their main characters off, and she has never answered the question of whether Harry live or dies. Everything else is speculation and repeated insinuations from ‘intrepid reporters’. All this furvor over a non-answer is amazing. Her basic answer is: ‘ I can see why an author WOULD kill their main character off, but I’m STILL not telling you whether Harry lives or dies!’.

I understood the post- and the interpretation of Potter having to die to kill Voldemort is actually COUNTER to the Prophecy. The Prophecy says that NEITHER MAY LIVE UNTIL ONE SHALL DIE. This clearly indicates that one lives and one dies, and does not support any mutual death scenario whatsoever. It’s saying that until one of them dies, neither of them really live, they’re trapped within the confines of their conflict until one victor emerges. To me it clearly indicates that there will be one winner and one loser in that conflict. Apparently it tells you a whole lot more than that.

  5. This is how it ends. First Harry potter battles voldemort and then he realizes that he can love and Voldemort can’t. Then he starts to make out with him while thinking about his girlfriend Ginny. That’s how he kills him.

  6. Okay okay everybody calm down. I know what happens in the end…

Harry and Co. devise a plot that cons Vold into a trap that tourtures him mentally and phiscally. Every time he thinks he’s getting out he’s really going deeper into the trap. Finally he’s torn aprart by dragons.

    But not really… hehehe

  7. I always prefer happy endings because life inself is so depressing that I love to escape into a good movie/book and come out with hope (or some really great action sequences).

I won’t mind her killing Harry off if its a great, very heroic death. And she better not leave a posibility of doubt that he is dead so we don’t have to deal with fans saying he’s not dead for the next 20 years.

However, I don’t think she will kill Harry off. He is just too good of a character. I think all this “hints” and “slips” of the possible death of Harry are just a really smart marketing plan on her part to get people REALLY hyped up about buying the book. Not to mention that it will add to the tention and suspence for people reading/watching it who aren’t sure if he will make it or not.

  8. Ed R,

Get a grip. Rowling herself has said on multiple occasions that she may very well kill off Potter at the end.

And read the post again… it’s NOT suggesting that Potter dies and Vold lives… it’s that Potter dies in order to destory Vold.

Read more carefully before spouting off like that. You just make yourself look foolish. (not that your opinion that Potter lives is foolish… but flaming others for their opinions when you don’t even understand what they’re saying is)

  9. I would LOVE it if she killed off Harry. It would be one of the gutsiest moves since Doyle shoved Holmes off the Rickenbach Falls.

Book 7 is the last book, so it’s not like she can cheat (like Doyle did) and bring him back due to the predicted crying and gnashing of teeth and wailing if she does kill him off.

Might put an end to all that damn creepy slash fiction, too.

Who am I kidding? Nothing will kill that crap.

  10. The Prophecy says that NEITHER MAY LIVE UNTIL ONE SHALL DIE.
That means ONE SHALL DIE. And guess what? I realyl don’t think the author spent 17 years ( she started writing this stuff in 1990 ) writing her fingers to nubs just to kill off the good guy and have the bad guy triumph.
Killing off Harry would make the whole effort pointless.

I’m finding more and more of your opinions to be poorly thought out.

  11. using the prophecy found in book 5 it kind of sounds of like he will have to die to kill voldemort. And then there is the whole Horcrux thing with voldemort being alive in sveral things.

I wouldn’t be surprised because she said she is writing 7 books for the series, and one way to ensure that is to kill the main character.
