Cruise to Star in Western Remake

Tom Cruise is reported to be attached to a up coming western project titled 3:10 to Yuma, which is a remake of the 1957 version staring Glenn Ford. To me this is good news. I enjoy a good western, and I have posted previously that this seems to be a genre which comes and goes. With Brad Pitt’s Jesse James movie on the way, this picture will have a promising follow up audience.

Regardless of Cruise’s wacky behavior and tabloid exposures, I think he’s a dynamite actor. The Last Samurai was an amazing picture from all aspects and I still question how Cruise was overlooked for an Academy award for his performance.

Freeze Dried Movies gives us the scoop on Cruise and 3:10 to Yuma.

Tom Cruise has been interested in many Sony features recently, and is reportedly favoring a remake of 1957’s Western ‘3:10 to Yuma’ according to Variety.

The script penned by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas with a rewrite by Stuart Beattie is what is said to have brought Cruise’s interest, and is favoring the role of the films villain. Attached is director James Mangold and is aiming to start filming this summer.

I am going to remain optimistic towards this movie. I have confidence in Cruise and when the cowboys aren’t making out, I can get into it.

  1. 3:10 To Yuma’s not just a western; it’s a *noir western* – a very cool subgenre indeed. Pursued, Colorado Territory, Day Of The Outlaw, Rancho Notorious, Forty Guns, I Shot Jesse James, The Furies, The Naked Spur…

Did you know Glenn Ford is still alive and kicking? He’s ninety-something I think.

  2. Interestingly after Minority Report, Cruise and Speilberg were considering doing a Western but decided on War of the Worlds. I am assuming this is an unrelated project?

  3. i almost want to cry when i hear people making fun of tom cruise that bad becuase i honestly think he’s a good actor. i think he dedicates himself to it. just because he does things out of the norm in real life doesnt mean he’s a bad actor. just like russell crowe. the guys an asshole but damn can he act. i dont think cruise is going away anytime soon so just accept the fact that he’s gonna keep getting good roles like this. you complain about him but yet he’s one of the most highest paid celebrity in hollywood why? becuase every movies he’s in gross big time.

  4. So what exactly is wrong with the original film that it needs to be remade… oh that’s right, it’s fifty years old and it’s in black and white, so the teenagers won’t watch it.

I don’t know. Mangold’s got some good films under his belt, but I’m still not convinced of the necessity of this.

  5. And I thought hearing Kevin Costner’s pathetic New York accent in ‘Dances with Wolves’ was bad….I can hardly wait to see Tom’s terrific acting talent in a cowboy outfit.
