Superman II DVD restoration with Richard Donner

SupermanII.jpgLook I can’t tell you how speculative this is…actually I can…this is really speculative. From Superman Homepage the suggestion is that Richard Donner is to work on a version of the DVD edition of Superman II.

So what, well most of you will know that after he filmed most of the movie he departed the production and it was taken over. Fans have tried to recreate the original version by copying it from obscure TV sources, et al, but never really bringing it back to life. Could Donner be hired to do just this?

The latest edition of DreamWatch magazine includes an article on the fan-made “Restored International Cut” of Superman II, but even better than that, it notes that director Richard Donner (who was removed from the film after having already directed most scenes) has now been hired to work on a Special Edition DVD of “Superman II”. It’s still very early days, so anything can happen from here on in

Very early…still…this could be the DVD version the fans have been waiting for…well? Fans?

  1. Someone must have found footage in the vaults….or the Salkinds finally let go of thier alleged iron grip.

Bret, I think such a restored cut would show up arround the time of Singer’s film, and since the Director’s cut of Superman The Movie is already there, I just want all the extras found in the current DVD to remain intact.

  2. I can see what Warner Bros is planning right now… a 3 disc DVD box set containing the director’s cut of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE, Donner’s cut of SUPERMAN II, and Bryan Singer’s SUPERMAN RETURNS. I’d buy it.
