Renée Zellweger signs to The Eye

ReneeZellweger.jpgI wrote about Hideo Nakata as the Director of The Eye in a story about his projects back in March, Hideo Nakata to direct Hollywood’s The Eye and Out, but now they have a lead signed up. Renée Zellweger.

Thanks to Twitch for the news of Zellweger, and it’s not great news, but I think the fact that Nakata has been signed up for Directorial duties for some time now is the possible saving grace of this movie. As long as he’s not overpowered by the Hollywood machine, as so many before him have and indeed by the evidence of his previous attempt, The Ring Two.

Still, we can but hope because the excellent book Out is due for his hand as well as the remake The Entity.

Yet is she the right choice, or is it copying a formula? Any similarities to Naomi Watts?

  1. You know, I was never all that enamored with the original Ringu, the movie that everyone keeps saying “is the scariest movie of all time” or some such. I always thought it was okay, moody, but scary? Nah. I think the only reason why Ringu stays in people’s mind so much, and why they think so highly of it, is because of the final scene of the girl crawling out of the TV. That was brilliant stuff. Beyond that, I’m hardpressed to understand it’s elevation to what seems to be God status.
