Arnold in Terminator 4?

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 4? I know there have been whispers and rumours about it over the last few months… but nothing more than fanboy chatter in forums and the like. But now the first actual “source” is saying that this could be possible.

The good folks over at Ananova are reporting that Arnold is indeed signed up with old buddy James Cameron to do a Terminator 4. Here’s what they had to say:

Arnold Schwarzenegger has reportedly agreed to star in two movie sequels. The Californian Governor has agreed to join forces with James Cameron in a fourth Terminator installment in addition to a sequel to True Lies.

We already talked about True Lies 2 yesterday… but I wasn’t aware of any serious movement on a Terminator 4 project. Is this actually true? Can anyone point to another source for this. Has Arnold officially decided to not run for California Govenor again? If so… SHOULD there even be a Terminator 4?

Don’t get me wrong… I’m one of the guys who actually liked Terminator 3… but I think the franchise is done. Plus… Arnold just isn’t the same man physically he was a few years ago. I don’t think they should do it… but who knows… with Cameron and Arnold together again… MAYBE it could be magic. We’ll see.

  1. Schwarzenegger in Terminator 4 and 5? Hmmm…James Cameron back? Hmmmm….

Well, regardless of who is back, there are a few grey areas, and I don’t mean this acinine internet ageism.

One thing I hated about Terminator 3 was that the rules were changed. I didn’t mind some of the action and stunts, but when you think about the science fiction aspects of the film, what exactly is ‘obsolete’? If, in the future, the machines send back Terminator 1, and John Connor is still around, that means the first Terminator failed. A few seconds later, they send back the T-1000. John Connor is still around. A few seconds later, they trash all Terminators and send back the T-X to kill off John Connor and his unit before the new Judgement Day. Killing off John Connor makes no difference now, but the machines do it anyway.

If that wasn’t all, the T-X helps start the Rise Of The Machines by counter programming small versions of HKs and T1’s.

But forget all that crazy bunk. It’s all a non-issue really, after all, there is a bigger question:

After T3, where is there to go? Storywise, we know that eventually, humanity wins over the Terminators/Skynet. We also know that Nick Stahl and Claire Danes do not wish to return, and, this is fine, since thier characters will be in the bunker for some time. Either the machines or a surviving scientist (?) makes up a contraption that restores some oxygen to decimated areas (surviving humans were rounded up as slaves for the machines) because the issue of nuclear fallout would have to be addressed.

Schwarzenegger could return as a Terminator- but why? How-if, as mentioned in T3, he is out of date?

    1. Some of the ‘outdated’ Terminators could be sent back in early Futurewar to ensure a quicker roundup of survivors/find John Connor and Katherine Brewster.

    2. Schwarzenegger is not a Terminator ‘yet’. He’s ‘Commander Cody’, and he leads a team of survivors to find Connor/the Bunker, only to run into T1’s, HK’s and the easy to spot 500 series Terminators. By film’s end, Cody is captured, along with a few other survivors who look a lot like Kristina Loken and Robert Patrick- and maybe even a pet Tarantula (an in joke for those who seen T2:3D Battle Across Time) …and bingo! New lines of Terminator models.

    3. Skynet discovers evidence of ‘Kyle Reese’, and correctly assumes he is John Connor’s father. They cannot find Reese, but they find audio tapes from Sarah Connor to her son John. They find a photo. “The” photo. (Watch T3 again- the photo is lost!) They use this as bait to draw John Connor out in the open.

    4. They do find a young Reese, and target him. The Schwarzenegger model goes after Reese. This helps Reese later on when he is in 1984 at Tech Noir. He knows what the Terminator will generally look like, but had to wait until Terminator came close because the model sent to 1984 is a little different in appearance than other T-800/850 models.

    5. And then maybe John does something really crazy. He chooses not to send Reese back (in fact, he can’t find him and he lost the picture. “The” picture.) In so doing, he does not exist. There would be no need for the Terminators to be sent back in time. The first Terminator still might kill the other Sarah Connors, but because Reese isn’t there, “the” Sarah Connor would go into Tech Noir. She still would still see the news brief, she would eventually get in contact with the police. But assuming Ginger is Sarah, and getting no message from the answering machine, Terminator goes somewhere else to wait for the nuclear war and shuts down. Sarah, despite the brush with death, goes on with her life. The jerk who dumped her (see Terminator 1) takes her back. They fool around, he’s still a jerk, he leaves her as a single mother. She calls her son John Connor.

Later, Terminator builds a new CPU and gives his right arm to a little company called Cyberdyne. Now with one arm, Terminator helps Myles Dyson and the other scientists to make waves with faster results. Later, Terminator changes jobs, and works for the DoD.

He programs T1’s and HK prototypes to be on a ‘countdown clock’. So when Skynet is ready, the surprise attack starts. Even with one arm, Terminator cannot be brung down easily; the H1’s and HKs do thier thing.

General Brewster manages to save some people before he dies. They include a few soldiers , his daughter, Kate, and Kate’s friend, a bright young man named John Connor. Terminator takes out the soldiers who give thier lives to save Kate and John. Kate and John make it into Crystal Peak’s undergroound bunker. Terminator does not. Kate and John find all the discs, books and tapes in the bunker and are self tought mathematics, military strategies, and things like that.

In futurewar, John Connor finds Skynet has sent a Terminator back to kill his mother before he was born. He sends back his best friend, Kyle Reese, unaware Reese has burned the memory of John’s mother, Sarah, in his mind. Why did John give him the photo? Reese asked for it, since Sarah Connor survived Judgement Day and became a good medic in early Futurewar – she was an inspiration. So, Reese is sent back…and screws it up literally for everyone. Evidence of this? In the first film he says th nuclear war is a few years after 1984, but with all the timeline changing, he doesn’t know all the tech stuff…

And if you had read this far, you are more crazier than me.

    Have a nice day.

  2. With Arnold’s record as Governor, he could go back to playing an evil terminator.

“Hasta la vista, immigrant living in poverty!”

“My mission is to terminate your health care funding.”

“I’ll be back. But your disability payment won’t be.”

“Talk to de hand. While I grope your breasts.”
