March of the Penguins Passes Columbine

marchofthepenguins.jpgHow would you like to be the stars or producers of “The Honeymooners“, or the Martin Lawrence film “Rebound” or the Hillary Duff film “The Perfect Man” or maybe even big name movies like “Stealth” and “Dark Water“. All these people have to wake up every morning and realize that a documentary about penguins did better at the box office than their movies. Sucks to be them. But March of the Penguins has just passed Bowling for Columbine into second place on the all time box office chart for documentaries. It’s now passed $26 million.

Don’t know about March of the Penguins? Here’s a synopsis for ya:

Emperor penguins overcome daunting obstacles in order to return to their breeding grounds for mating season. This tells the story of one year in the life of a flock — focusing on one couple in particular — as they trek across the Antarctic on an annual journey that invokes just about every major life experience: from birth to death, from dating to mating, from comedy to tragedy, and from love to fighting for survival.

THe picture is narrated by Morgan Freeman. I still haven’t seen it, but everyone I know who has says they loved it. I think I might go take it in today.

  1. March of the penguins is a great film in my opinion. I think for some it would be rather dull, but cute. It’s educational and still fun to watch. Still MUCH betetr then antyhing hollywood has produced in a long while. Everything now is a remake, and usually a bad one at that. The movies today aren’t creative at all, and the ones that look interesting are dissapointing. “March” is an excellent movie. It’s something different and new, and it’s great to see how much work actually goes into thier breeding.

  2. Great movie. Wonderful narration. I just saw it yesterday, 8/14/2005 and it was well worth it! It really drew you into their lives as they continued in thier quest for a companion, thier dedication to thier young and thier quest for a season of love.

  3. It’s nice eye candy but not much more, IMO. However, as a lot of people said, it’s a great family film, interesting and better than 98% of what’s currently playing. Just don’t go expecting any sort of information about the emperor penguins besides the basics and a lot of “they love each” other talk.
