Al Pacino to play Napoleon

AlPacino.jpgAccording to Cinematical Al Pacino is signed up to play Napoleon in a biopic of the Emperor.

Apparently playing the short, aggressive, exiled emperor has long been a dream for Pacino, and he feels that Navidi and Ratford are the right people to bring Napoleon to the big screen.

Sounds good, a great role for him to tackle, but in a particularly poor sounding blurb he looks set to turn it into a romantic movie.

…it will explore the Frenchman’s later years on St. Helena, where he apparently struck up a friendship with a young British girl. Inevitably, of course, the exiled ex-emperor became “infatuated” with the lass.

So gone are all the amazing accomplishments he made throughout he life, both good and bad, and the fascinating and brutal stories of his years as Emperor, great battles, the story of his exile and the invention of tinned food. Instead we’ll be treated to a love story between an aged, mumbling, American accented Frenchman and a young girl.

Sounds a bit of a miss when we could have had such a good story.

  2. Please no Scarlett Johansson…

I think the concept sounds smart. There’s a mighty controversy at the moment over Napoleon’s last few years and post-Waterloo. As i recall, the young English lass was the daughter of the British diplomat.

  3. I share your sentiments here Rich. It would be more interesting to see Pacino in full military galore, charging on rather than romancing some lass, unless of course the lass was me. LOL And it will be reminiscent of another Pacino film, “Revolution” which had good war scenes even if it wasnt such a good film.

Please show us Napoleon Bonaparte, the military strategist.
