We can all tell The Dukes Of Hazzard is going to be pure crap. No surprise there. A major motion picture where 2 of the 3 lead “actors” aren’t even actors at all.
It’s so bad, that even the actor who played one of the TV shows most beloved characters, Cooter, is telling people to stay away from the film. The good folks at the USA Today give us this:
Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the wisecracking mechanic on the popular series from 1979-85, said profanity and sexual content in the film make a mockery of the family friendly show.
“Basically, they trashed our show,” said Jones, who now lives in the mountains of Washington, Va. “It’s one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking “I Love Lucy” and making her a crackhead or something.”
“From all I have seen and heard, the “Dukes” movie is a sleazy insult to all of us who have cared about the “Dukes of Hazzard” for so long … ,” Jones wrote. “Unless they clean it up before the August 5th release date I would strongly recommend that true blue Dukes fans hold their noses and pass this one up.”
He’s got a point. From the music videos, previews and trialers I’ve seen… they’ve taken a strong sensible female character (Daisy Duke) and turned her into nothing but a slutty whore (hehe… i’ts fun saying “slutty whore”). Have you seen the “music” video for the new boots are made for walking song from the film? Ugg.
This movie is a total car wreck waiting to happen. Perhaps it will surprise us… we’ll see.

I saw the movie and I hated It!!!! It was nothing like the old series. In the movie, Uncle Jessie (Willie Nelson) runes moonshine and the real Uncle Jessie never ran moonshine. He made a promise to the federal goverment that he would never run moonshine again for cryin out loud!! I’m a devoted dukes fan but I wanted to go see it to see how Holly Wood would screw up such a down home show. Plus daisy was never lookin at as a girl with boobs and shortie shorts on. Thanks a lot Holly wood, you really screwed this one up. BIG TIME!!!
I am a huge Mopar Fan, and also a fan of the original show. I grew up with it. I have not seen the movie yet, but i will regardless of the reviews. I have to agree on some of the dislikes though. This movie will be exactly what happened when coy, and Vance replaced the original dukes. Just wont work!! There’s no replacement for the origional no matter how hard they try!! What should have happened is bring the origional cast back, Tom, John, Catherine, ben, and ofcourse uncle jesse would have to be passed on. Have them all in the movie. They pretty much play the role of uncle jesse to there kid’s. When the kid’s are old enough they call them to the barn, and roll off a tarp, and show them the General lee. That’s a start!! The new daisy could be catherine’s daughter easily. I have no clue who wrote this script for the movie, but someone need’s to tell these hollywood guys that replacing origional character’s never work’s!!! It wont in this movie, and it has never worked in others either! If they would have brought the original’s back, and made a continuation from the origional then they would have possibly had a hit, plus a new tv series to continue. Why they chose 2 goofballs, and a hot chick to portray a movie with no plot is beyond me. I wish i could have directed this movie. I garantee i could make it a hit!! It’s not hard, just follow the origional!!

The original show was retarded, I knew that even as a 12 year old in 1980. The movie is a truly cheap attempt to make a fast buck.Why anyone thinks the watching some white trash misbehaving is entertainment is beyond me. If Jessica Simpson stripped down to the buff I might watch it, but only the part where she got nekked – and even then i wouldnt pay for it….I’d wait for it to come out on video and download it from limewire. God damn I would so love to bounce that ass!
The original show sucked, and the new movie is more garbage unworthy of comment…except this: Any show or movie that results in wrecking dozens of historic 69 Chargers (and the mutilation of many more via “dukization”) should result in the punishment of the producers, cast and crew…and probably the morons who will rave about this film. Sad.

This is a load of poopola. Have all you fans of the original tv show completely lost your minds? I remember the eighties and how popular it was. Every kid in my elementary school watched it. But something about the show should be recalled. It was an unambiguous insult to non caucasians, especially American Indians and Blacks who lived in states and counties where the confederate flag decorates speeding cars driven recklessly by self made outlaws. There was nothing cute or funny about the original Dukes of Hazard movies. Ive been waiting for some one else to mention this but since no one else seems to remember th aaudcity I thought I might remind yall. Let just hope the film version will actually make light of the not so subtle racism of the original. Maybe the new fictional hick town will be inhabited by people with brown, red and black skin maybe even yellow and olive skinned people! Maybe the new film will have boss hogg and cooter lynching a dusky boy up into a tree for looking at a white girl or winning a fist fight against a white knight boy.
Come on America! When are we going to wake up and take some accountability for our cultur’s passive apathy towards acknowledging the pain and suffering caused by our largest foot prints ?
If you are a middle class or even lower income white person than the show was probably a no brainer fun and games sort of entertainment.
I grew up in a country town dominated by hicks and am not white myself.
Whenever any Indian or myself saw some car come whipping up a dirt road in the country- driving drunk and reckless through some one else’s land people were obliged to get out of the way. And geuss what?
The local judges and cops were all too often fans of the fictious show. The behaviors of people in real life that imitated “art” were more often than not contemptable. The fact that this racist drivel has been recreated with out so much a mention of its all white cast and crew- or glorifying of the confederate flag waving vigalantes suggests to me that this country is entering into another era of willfully ignorant nationalism. Stupid plot lines stupid car chases all justifying a lets have fun wasting gasoline and taking the law into our own hands with plenty of guns mentality.
I agree with Cooter. I used to watch The Dukes with the kids and the parents and the grandparents. I would be embarrassed to watch the movie with them.

jones actually auditioned for the movie. the movie people wanted to have cameos from all the original cast members, but they, including jones, wanted way too much money. enough that the filmmakers gave up on the cameo idea. i think he’s just pissed that they didn’t think he was important enough to pay however much he wanted to get to be in the movie. if he really believed everything he said about the movie, i don’t think he would have auditioned for it and gotten irritated that they wouldn’t pay him what he wanted.

Well, the movie wasn’t going to be released (for about a week) due to the fact they ripped off another script (see my site). Warner settled out of court and the film’s back on schedule.
Every body relax. Take a deep breath and relax. If you want to see the movie go and pay to see it. If don’t want to see the movie download it and bitch about to your friends later.
I think its a real shame that it takes such sleezyness and sexual comments to make a movie work. I myself did like and watch the dukes as a kid but, It was not at all my all time favorite. (by far). This moive is geared toward men, and thats where they will make most their money, is the young boys and men that want to check out jessica. I hear men saying now that they will go to see the movie for jessica alone. To them its worth their 8 bucks. cheaper than a strip club. I think they really tried to make a movie that people will come and see, but I KNOW they had the sexual comments and scenes only because they KNEW that would be the only thing to make them any money at all. In the long run it will be a FLOP.

I’ll say Its a sad imatation to the original. None of the characters act original, Well maybe because their not even actors to begin with, I believe it was just a hype to get the already too much noticed ..more noticed for looking stupid in front of cameras. Now what we all already knew is made just that more more public. They are just running out of originality, so they have to fall back on fack hospitality!
The Dukes was a great tv show, this is the new millinum and the young people buy the tickets. The only suggestion would have been change the title like they did for the Willy Wonka movie. Show it Jessica baby, bring them daisy dukes back.
Yeah! They could make some movies about World War II, or maybe Dracula…
How’s about some original material?! Why the hell is every movie this summer something that’s already been done? I don’t want the same old tired stuff…perhaps if Hollywood could come up with a bit of creativity, they could reverse the downward trend at the box office. Just a thought.

Amen, Left Nine. It’s sad what movie gets the big budgets and box office. It’s movies like these that make people dumber than what they were walking into the theater.
As long as fools keep coughing up money for shiite like this flick, they’ll keep making them and taking your money all the way to the bank. This is the sad state of the average American consumer and his/her intelligence/maturity. They are just producing what sells.
Obviously this won’t be film of the year or even mentioned at the Oscars, but I think you are off on your math with the actors vs. non-actors.

Not that numbers make an actor, nor would anyone in this cast be considered an exceptional actor. I think this modernization of the Dukes of Hazzard will still be somewhat entertaining.
Sure, the movie may have more swearing and sexiness, but I’m sure it will still adhere to what The Dukes of Hazzard TV show was all about — bad acting, dumb car chases, stupid plotlines and dialogue, and catering to the lowest common denominator. If Cooter really thinks the TV show was “classic”, he is very much deluded.
This seems a little prudish. Why sould it be a deterant that the movie is a little more sleazy? Having 2 non-actors acting is a problem. Having the characters show skin is not. I also seem to remember something about a style of extermely tight and short shorts being named after one of the original characters…oh yeah, it was Daisy Duke. This sounds like a disgruntled old actor upset over the fact he is now excluded from a project that he was once a part of.
Well I would have to dissagree with this one boys. I for one am looking forward to this movie. First of all it has Burt R. is it – that alone makes it OK in my book. Seconed Jessica S. looks supper hot as Daisy and if I were producing this remake and had that body to work with, I would sex it up too. Finally Johnny Noxville is going to be huge (possibly the next Brad Pitt) you watch and remember who said it. He is still learning but I think he is goint to be big time.
Also I was a big Dukes fan and I am fully aware that this is not going to be like the show. First off it is set in 2005 and has been modernized. Also it is supposed to be fun – and I am going to watch it on the sole principle of haveing fun with it.
I should have mentioned that. They let him read the script and showed him a bunch of footage… I guess they were hoping to get him endorsment of the film.
