There are two fantastic quotes in this story from The Hollywood Reporter through MovieWeb about Renny Harlin in the directing chair again for a thriller called Run:
“We’re thrilled to have a director of Renny’s caliber on board to direct the film,” [Gary] Hamilton [Arclight Films Managing Director] said. ” ‘Run’ will feature some of the most complex car-chase scenes to hit the cinema in years, and no one understands action better than Renny.”
Okay, no laughing at the back there. Let’s try the next one, and please, stay on your seat for this. Here’s the complex plot:
The film tells the story of a rookie Interpol agent who pulls over an unsuspecting motorist for a traffic violation in Rome, triggering an unrelenting car chase that catapults the city into chaos

Renny Harlin’s films are extremely visual. If he just happens to get on board of a good project there’s no doubt that Renny Harlin can squeeze the most out of it and make it thrilling, running, run…
Great news….this movie is going to rock!!!
He’ll ruin it, as he’s done with nearly every movie he’s done thus far, with computer generated action. He needs to get back to basics a la “The Bourne Supremacy.”

Harlin is a director with a great feeling for timing. Could be his comeback project …
Personally I quite like a good car chase and am not averse to movies about them. But the Renny Harlin factor here is a distinct worry.
I know Richard C. Sarafian is 80 years old, hasn’t directed a film for 15 years and his last one was an Allen Smithee film, but couldn’t they bring him out of retirement for this? At least Vanishing Point demonstrated he knew how to do mad car chase action…

I didn’t see Driven (for good reason), but I did see Deep Blue Sea, which was painful.
I think I can pass on this new project all together.
Personally I think Harlin is too deep in a pool of suckiness to get back out.
Deep Blue Sea and Drive make be want to stop watching movies.
