Trailer viewing for The Woodsman

I regularly take a look at the trailers coming out, and tentatively watch them hoping not to spoil the film, but eagerly hoping to be excited and fired up to go and see a good movie. It’s especially interesting when you’ve heard so much about a film before you get to see it, and this was the case with the trailer for The Woodsman.

Controversy is not going to be far away on this one, being the story of a man who was served a jail term for twelve years for pedophilia and has returned to his home town in an attempt to remake a life. I hope there might be scope for some intellectual comments from this, and not some of the comments we’ve had regarding the Alexander post.

The trailer is both powerful and emotive, and you can really see the the poles in the movie, from the Kyra Sedgewick character who knows the Kevin Bacon character from his new life alone, and some of the other characters who only know him of his past deeds. Throughout it you can easily feel the dread and fear that all the characters have running through them.

This is set to be one controversial, and yet harrowing and powerful movie. I’m keen to see this, especially for the high respect I hold for Kevin Bacon as an actor and the various festivals that have nominated and given awards to the people behind this movie.

  1. I saw The Woodsman at the Toronto Film Festival. Bacon is Oscar worthy. The film deals with the pedophile theme as even-handedly as possible. Not a great film, but it makes you see the human side of a man with a problem he wishes he didn’t have.
