Transformers 2 Has A $300 Million Dollar Budget?!?

Megan-Fox-Budget.jpgPutting gigantic, realistic robotic warriors who transformer seamlessly into earth vehicles and then make them bland in perfectly with a live action movie is NOT CHEAP. As a matter of fact, I was stunned that they were able to make the first Transformers movie on just a $150 million dollar budget.

Yeah, one of the complaints a lot of people had about the first Transformers was that they wanted to see more of them on screen more often. I was ok with how LONG the Transformers were on screen… I just thought they should have been doing and saying better stuff when on screen (Seriously… I know I always complain about this, but how do you have a Transformers movie and only have Megatron and Starscream say 1 bloody line to each other?!?!?!). But man, they really got the most out of that $150 million dollar budget.

Well… what if that budget was doubled? Well, according to Megan Fox, that’s what they’ve done. In an interview with IGN she said this:

Q: How is Transformers 2 going?

Megan Fox: It’s going good. It’s gigantic!

Q: Compared to the first, you’d say it’s way bigger?

Fox: It’s twice the budget, so yeah.

Ok, let’s get the obvious out of the way. Megan Fox is not exactly a rocket scientist folks. Just because she says the movie budget is doubled doesn’t necessarily make it so. Maybe she asked two questions at the same time and got the answers mixed up? Questions #1 – What will the budget for this movie be Mr. Bay? Question #2 – Since I was so bad in the first movie, how much sex do I have to have with you in your trailer while we’re shooting the movie to keep my job? Answer: DOUBLE.

But let’s assume for just a moment that Fox isn’t wrong when she says the budget will be double. Ok, Shia’s name is worth more now so you gotta give him a raise. Megan gave good skull so Bay gives her a bit of a raise… but really… then most of it goes completely into the Transformers themselves. THAT would be sweet. That would give us a whole heck of a lot more Transformer screen time and hopefully dialog too.

If Fox isn’t wrong (and she probably is) this would be the first really good piece of news I’ve heard about Transformers 2.

  1. Hey John,

I understand what blogs are. Take note, I made no attempt to chastise your thoughts, opinions, or otherwise experiences with the movie world. By using the word professionalism, the one you seem to be stuck on, I merely meant that I held sites like this at a standard above that of stating derogatory remarks.

If you notice, I stated a point where you clearly could’ve stopped without coming off so insulting, but instead you chose to go on and be disrespectful about a person that doesn’t deserve it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to start a Megan Fox fan club, but even bloggers have to learn when to draw the line.

I’m here for upcoming movie rumors, and sure, what your opinion is of those rumors. I enjoy that. What I don’t enjoy, is someone totally being inconsiderate of those people they choose to write about.

“Opinion” is different from “preference”, and far different from what you “think happened.” Keep your remarks to yourself next time, especially something that is so degrading to women, seriously…hold yourself to a higher standard. Unless I’m wrong, you’re not in High School anymore.

  2. Hey Maverick,

Clearly you have no idea what this site is. I am not a “professional”, and I don’t try to be. Did you think this was some sort of “news” site or something? It’s not.

This is a BLOG. My blog, with my thoughts, opinions and experiences on the movie world. I have no intention of being “professional” because this is a BLOG.

If you don’t like it, I can recommend many great professional news sites you can go to that I’m sure will be more to your liking.

Why don’t you criticize me for not having more fashion news and sports scores while you’re at it.

  3. Ive practically decided that subscribing to this website was a bad idea. I had no clue the contributers had one track minds like you. Seriously, I was with you up to the point where you said “let’s face it…not a rocket scientist.” Im sure we can agree with that and it wasn’t a comment that was really insulting, but you couldn’t stop thee could you.

Accusing an actress, whether she does good or bad in a role, of sexually expliciting herself for a role is uncalled for in any situation. It’s just flat out rude and very disrespectful to the person being judged.

I don’t care how hot she is, but that kindve writing needs to stop. It’s unprofessional, not that I would base this site off of professionalism anymore.

  4. Quote “Putting gigantic, realistic robotic warriors who transformer seamlessly into earth vehicles and then make them bland in perfectly with a live action movie is NOT CHEAP.”

Ya John they are “bland”. They are bland when they pee on goofy secret agents and they are bland when they step on flowers.

Learn how to write you fucking douchebag. For the love of God you run a blog.

Now go fix the word bland and delete this comment you piece of shit Nazi bastard!

  5. If that would be true, this is BREATHTAKING.
A Bay movie with a HUUUGE budget (actually 300 mio would be the biggest budget so far, since Spiderman 3 had one of 258, so it isn’t true anyway).
If there is one man on this planet who actually KNOWS how to spent big money on real big Hollywood blockbusters, it’s Bay.
Remember how awful Spiderman 3 looked with the biggest budget?
Transformers looked a thousand times better with almost half the budget.

  6. Hopefully the increased budget means more screentime for robots. I hope its more like twice the screentime and not twice as many transformers with less screentime.

  7. I am not suprised at all. The first one cost only $150M and made like $700M plus DVDS.

I hope the 2nd Transformers is cut from 2 hrs and 23 mins to 1 hr and 23 mins. PLEASE CUT OUT ALL THE BS HUMAN STORY!

  8. Considering how little screentime the Transformer had in the first movie it stands to reason the budget would be much higher, especially given its worldwide boxoffice, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Bay is pocketing half that money, we’ll probably be getting stock footage from 80’s animated Transformer movie. =p

  9. Wait a tick John, are we saying its acceptable to spend $300 mill on a movie now, as long as its Transformers? I just don’t think it’s responsible to spend that amount of money on any one film.

She’s probably wrong though like has been said.

It doesn’t matter how much it costs anyway. If there aren’t wall to wall robots for two hours in this one, we’ll all be peeved.

  10. Just a few things I want to say:

    1) With that kind of budget, you could already do a trilogy.

    2) I have said it once, I shall continue to say it; this movie better be an all-out war!

Let’s hope Revenge of the Fallen is an improvement instead of a setback.

  11. It can be detrimental when a franchise gets a flood of money as well. Just because the budget is bigger doesnt mean it will be better. I hope Transformers 2 is bigger and better tho like everyone else.

  12. Oh, yeah… and $300M IS insane. These robots wouldn’t cost so much rendering time if they cut back on the insane amount of detail we never get to see. There were more parts in Ironhide’s guns than in all of Optimus Prime put together – that’s completely unnecessary. And Ratchet’s blade is an insanely complicated piece of 3D modeling that looked like a spinning blur in the finished product.

Why not hire a director who has more hands-on experience in CGI? They could probably cut down that budget by a third. CGI really shouldn’t be that expensive, no matter how many Transformers are on-screen.

  13. If the source is Megan Fox…yeah I agree with Kristina…don’t take her to seriously…but calling her as dumb as bag of hammers is a little harsh…I would say she has the mind of a 17 year old left behind in 10th grade.

But from a guy perspective she is still hot!!

As for the movie the only thing Bay did that I enjoyed was the Verizon commercials! He so lampoons himself so well!

So even if they ad more Robots it might still be a yawner.

  14. If more screen time means more lawn smashing slapstick then no thanks. But if it means more beheadings by sword, then count me in. i will give Bay credit where its due. He stretched that budget pretty well. Spider-Man 3 cost like $258 million and no way did it look better than Transformers.
