Disney Previews Next 10 Films

DisneyWe have an extended list of Disney pictures coming down the pipe that has been made available to us thanks to the magical caves of Yahoo:

The Walt Disney Studios previewed 10 animated movies on Monday that it will release during the next four years, including further installments in the “Toy Story” and “Cars” series and two new fairy tales. With the exception of “Wall.E,” a robot love story opening on June 28, and “The Princess and the Frog,” a hand-drawn animated fairy tale set in New Orleans and due to open Christmas 2009, the remaining eight movies will be made in digital 3-D.

The first Disney digital 3-D movie for release is “Bolt,” the story of a dog of the same name who thinks he has superhero powers. John Travolta gives voice to Bolt while hit teen singer/actress Miley Cyrus is voicing Bolt’s owner Penny in the movie, due to open on November 26.

“Up,” the story of an unlikely 78-year-old adventurer and his 8-year-old sidekick, is due to be released on May 29, 2009.

“Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” are due to be re-released in digital 3-D on October 2, 2009 and February 12, 2010 respectively, while “Toy Story 3” is due to hit screens on June 18, 2010.

The classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Rapunzel,” about a girl trapped in a tower whose long golden hair is the only way for anyone to climb up to her, will be released at Christmas 2010.

Next comes “Newt,” a story of the last two blue-footed newts on the planet that aims to show that love is not a science, which is due to hit screens in summer 2011.

“The Bear and the Bow” — an action-adventure about a royal family in rugged and mythic Scotland — is slated to open Christmas 2011 starring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson.

“Cars 2,” in which Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater bid to take on the world’s fastest cars, is due for release in summer 2012.
“King of Elves,” based on a 1953 short story by Phillip K. Dick, will hit screens at Christmas 2012.

Eight of these films will be in 3-D! I am excited at this news and hope to be sporting a pair of Luxotica 3-D Raybans for most of them. I champion the 3-D onslaught and pledge my allegiance to it.

Of all the above stories listed, I am most interested in the Phillip K Dick short story adaptation of King Of Elves. When the author of Blade Runner meets Disney, curiosity will well up within me.

It looks like they have everything meticulously planned out for the next four years; now we wait for the final product and check them off our own lists one by one.

  1. 1) Olivia, congrats. I’ve never had someone disgust me with their shameless self-promotion AND their apparent lack of morality in the same sentence. WHY would you write a book about what YOU wanted her life to be?! Just… UGH. What a selfish and tasteless thing to do. I hope Disney stays far, far away. Enjoy your quick buck and 15 minutes off such a wonderful, beautiful person’s tragedy.

    2) Pixar’s movies’s are absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for Wall-E and I have high hopes for newt. <3 They blow me away with every movie they put out, it’s just great. That being said, since Pixar has the crown in 3-D, I really wish Disney would go back to 2-D animation. The classic 2-D Disney movies still manage to keep me and my friends (college age) as well as our nieces and nephews glued to the screen for hours. Disney needs to stop worrying about doing 3-D, get back their 2-D animators, and start focusing on good storytelling.

  2. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)I love that Disney is making more “princess” type movies. It’s so nice to “make believe” in todays world. I have just published a book I wish Disney would make into a princess movie. It’s called “If …Diana Didn’t Die” and yes, it’s a fairy tale. It’s all about what I wish Princess Diana’s life would be if she didn’t die so suddenly and way too soon. I know it’s not real but it’s nice to dream and think about how nice it would be if she had more time. And yes, it does have a happy ending. :)

  3. Well, these are great and all, but wheres The Incredibles part 2? I don’t see how they can do a Cars sequal before The Incredibles when they came first and was a much better movie and story then Cars.

I want another The Incredibles movie so badly and I thought surely it would come out by 2012. Sigh, it’s making me wonder if there ever will be another The Incredibles. :(

  4. ‘Cars’ splits people right down the middle sir. I didn’t think it was as funny or the characters were as memorable as previous Pixar films but i still thought it was an incredibly charming and breathtakingly beautiful film.

Maybe they want to make a sequel so they can convert audiences who didn’t like the first film; we’ve seen that happen before. I’m convinced it’s going to be Cars in the city, essentially. I just know that’s where they’ll take it next.

  5. I’m admittedly interested with the Phillip K. Dick story, although it is worthwhile noting that Disney’s collaboration with surrealist painter and filmmaker Salvadore Dali was a bit of a bust…

    Cars 2 – What The F?

  6. It would really mean the world to me if Toy Story 3 could be as good as the first two; be a perfect trilogy. I have the utmost faith that they will because Pixar is fully aware of how many pissed off people there will be if we get an inferior threequel.

The description of the ‘Up’ footage on AICN sounds absolutely wonderful. I’m really excited about that one now.

I just love everything Pixar does (and Cars is awesome frankly). I remember a review of ‘Ratatouille’ from Empire magazine which said “their films feel like gifts”. I couldn’t say it better.
