Advanced Iron Man Reviews Are Looking Good

Ironman-Poster-Rough-1As I was hunting for news today I ventured over to Rotten Tomatoes to take a gander at Iron Man’s current score. The film presently sits at 89% with favorable reviews from Cinematical, Cinema blend, Richard Roeper, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Empire. I am pleased with this score, and look forward to seeing the film myself as soon as possible.

Much positive praise is coming down the pipe regarding Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Tony Stark. Roeper proclaims that “Robert Downey Jr. is this movie.” I am thrilled, although not surprised that Downey Jr. has rocked this role. I have high hopes for this comic book movie and am hoping that this film will start a trend of blockbuster excellence that makes up for the dismal wipeout of last last year.

International friends, after you have had a chance to see the film – please take some time to share your thoughts with us. This is the sort of film that we love to chat about round these parts, and I look forward to breaking the film down and participating in water cooler chat with each and every one of you.

I am glad that the news is good; now I wait till Thursday.

  1. I was dieing to see this movie but I just got back from seeing iron man in boston and i was EXTREMELY dissapointed there wasnt enough action and i feel like it was more of a suspense movie because the whole time i was hoping for action and it didn’t deliver. I understand its introducing the character but there was so many holes in the movie about the suit and how he builds it. it was a 2 hour movie with about 30 minutes of action and he doesnt even really defeat the bad guy in the end horrible movie if they make a sequel it better be action packed.

Just saw it and I’m floored. Everything is right on. It was like reading the comic, but jumping into it and being there

  3. Awesome movie. A truly great start for the summer of 2008 :D And the last line in the movie…. Well, It definitely leaves you with WTF expression :D I enjoyed the movie from start to finish. Plus the new trailer for Indiana Jones was attached, so that was cool too :P

  4. aaahhh man! the hulks one of my favorite heroes (moonknights my 1st!!!) i thought hed be in it!!!!

hopefully ironman will be in the hulk movie!

i still stick by what i sayd: the hulk will be better. obviously it will have more action but thats not what im saying- it will be better. but well see who knows it might end up tanking

  5. KRISTINA

    thank you so much!!

    and..

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Pez, i agree. he looked so much better, and more fluid than in the trailers. let’s hope the hulk appears the same on film. i wanted to see so much more of the Iron Man though, which was my only downfall.

And Alfie, i don’t think that is such a bad thing if people want to see more action. You think there was enough, but to most non Iron Man fans, i think one and a half action scenes wont be enough. I think the only problem with a long back story, is that you will be compared to Batman Begins, which i don’t think is fair as even most non super hero films can compare with that in terms of character development. Everything pre-Iron Man is by no means boring though, far from it. It’s just the action scenes were so good i think most people would want to see a lot more!

  7. Iron Man opened here in Australia today, 1st May. My mate Dave and I took the day off to see it, attending the first session of the day at 10am. This is something we have had planned since the release date was announced. I’m so glad we did. This movie is Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!

RDJr nailed Tony Stark. The effects were seamless. At no point did I NOT believe what I was looking at on screen. When Iron Man kicked ass, boy did he KICK ASS!! Easily up there as one of the best comic book to film movies around. Up there with Sin City, Spidey 2 and Batman Begins. If Marvel can keep knocking out flicks like this, the future for blockbuster comic book movies looks good!

  8. Guys, I just saw the movie, it opened today in Mexico. Without getting into spoilers, this movie rocked!! If you are a fan of the comics there are plenty of moments to geek out for. I was the only person who stayed until the end of the credits and the Nick Fury scene is there, the ending of the movie was very surprising to me, and the extra scene gives it an extra punch. I’d rate it solid 8.5/10, easily on a par with the best comic book movies out so far

  9. Just got home after watching Iron Man, which premiered today here in Sweden. I thought the movie was excellent! And I didn´t know anything about the character before.
The overall story was pretty much standard superhero stuff, but it was presented in a very entertaining way. Downey jr. did an amazing job with the part. This is possibly my second favorite comic-book movie after Spider-man 2.
I thought the movie was great fun, and I´m not always easily entertained by big blockbusters. I give it an 8/10.

  10. My personal favorite comic book movie is still Oldboy (if you include Manga comics) For me personally, Iron Man is in the Top 10. It’s a toss up between that and Hellboy for 6th position :p.

  11. I heard screenings didn’t get the extra scene, only the theatrical releases . So Kristina, watch it again but I bet you would be doing that anyways.

I personally think it is one of the best after credits scene.

  12. Just got back from Iron Man and I have to be honest… I didn’t like it too much. I am sad and disappointed.

For a concept so simple, way to many problems. All the funny moments were in the trailers. The action was far too spaced out and totaly disjointed. The places he goes and people he saves are geographically/topically without any given logic.

Not enough action, not enough Iron Man. Way too much bs in between. I want to like this movie so much but it just doesnt work. 5/10

  13. not while the fantastic four rise of the silver surfer is out there.

that is of course a joke….

I still think the gold standard for comic books movies is superman 1 and 2….They are my favourite comic book films of all time. and I am not a superman guy at all (batman is my number 1 comic book hero_)but i think they are perfect. then its probably batman begins and then iron man so I would say it is now my 4th favorite comic film of all time

  14. the first thing I said when I saw iron man was that if anyone has any complaints I bet it will be complaints that there was not enough action.

I fucking knew that would be the problem but you know what FUCK that.

If the rest of the film was trash and all it had going for it was the action then yeah you could complain but everything is when you have a film as good as this it really doesn’t matter.

I personally thought it had enough action but then again I am not one of these people who want wall to wall action with nothing else going on….w have seen what we get when that is the case and its called shoot em up and its fucking awful.

Iron Man is great…if the lack of action bothers you then I don’t know what else you want because this is pretty much a perfect comic book movie.

and there was know sam jackson in my screening either but the people running it said that the final reel for the preview prints is different to the reels going out once it is released. they were holding a scene back as a secret. don’t know if that is true or not all it means is I have to see it again…but I will be seeing this film several times.

    Its marvellous

  15. I stayed until the very end of the credits, until the screen went blank and the lights came up and saw no extra scene. Maybe it’s only on certain prints, but there was nothing at my screening.

  16. Aaaaaaaaaaaaahmustseenow!

I just popped over to Empire online and Total Film and they both gave it only three stars (and three & two respectively for Speed Racer) which deflated me slightly but now im pumped again because i trust my fellow commentors.

I’m seeing it on Thursday night as well (otherwise i would have to wait till Sunday and that it unacceptable). I’m really sorry you missed out on your screening John; i’m sure you can hang in there with the rest of us.

If you get a chance to see TDK early though, you’d better not fuck up. I won’t tolerate it;)

  17. @Xavier

    Oh crap…

I knew I should have stayed till the end of the credits! Well, I guess that’s the perfect excuse for me to watch the movie again this weekend.

  18. Just got out of a late night screening here in Singapore.

The film more than lives up to the hype. Downey is perfect in his role, and they couldn’t have cast anyone better. But you know what? The rest of the cast did a damn good job too – the distinct relationships between each character were touched upon just enough, to get a clear idea of where everyone stands, but not too much that it distracted from the rest of the movie.

None the less, this movie set-up perfect elements and groundwork for the sequel. God, I enjoyed this movie so much, it’s actually got me hyped to see the new Hulk too – the pitch perfect excecution has given me a little more faith for that film. Plus, I’ll get to see a little cameo of Downey Jr. there too, so whee!

I look forward to your respective takes on the film Doug and John.

  19. I just came back from seeing it too (in Brunei)…

I would guess that the majority (even those who hated the film) will agree that Robert Downey Jr is perfect as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

  20. Saw IRON MAN last night after scoring free preview tickets.

You know all those blurbs about it being as good as SPIDER-MAN, X2, and BATMAN BEGINS?

I thought that they were all hype, heck, even OVER-hype.

    Nope.

This movie delivers. It starts with a bang and actually has a good number of laughs.

Downey is PERFECT as Tony Stark.

True, this was an origin film so we didn’t get to see as much of IRON MAN as some may have wanted, but this movie is going to break BIG. Sequels will be coming that satiate the hunger for massive explosions.

I can’t wait to see War Machine at some point (speculation, not a spoiler)!!!

  21. I saw it last night in Ecuador (South America), the movie is awesome!!! Robert Downey Jr. is an excellent Tony Stark and Jon Favreau has done a great job directing. Every element in this movie is perfect: impressive visual effects, solid story with humor and great action.

Don´t forget to stay until the end of the credits!

  22. I have been hearing that, and am somewhat concerned. If they are able to fill the following sequels with scads of action; it will bother me less….but I was hoping for city wide destruction ala Godzilla.

Maybe the Hulk will fill that tab and then some.

  23. i just came back from seeing it tonight, here in korea. RDJ was indeed awesome, but there was just not enough of the Iron Man in it for me. I understand it had to introduce the character and whatever, but i knew nothing about Iron Man, and after seeing all the action in the trailers, i feel slightly misled as i thought there would be a lot of action. not bad though and I hope it does well as i think the sequel would be absolutely awesome.
