Warner May Axe Legion Of Employees Due To Strike

Pink-SlipIt looks like the fallout from the writer’s strike could be moving from bad to worse. We get some concerning news this morning about possible layoffs over at WB thanks to the professionals at the Hollywood Reporter:

Up to 1,000 employees on the Warner Bros. lot theoretically could be laid off anytime after Friday under federally mandated notices the studio recently distributed. The notices, or so-called WARN mailings, represent the first concrete sign that the WGA strike could trigger massive layoffs in Hollywood.

Those receiving WARN notices are employees of Warner Bros. Studios Facilities, primarily production workers and others involved in lot maintenance and facility management.

It sucks that so many people do not have protection in the event of a strike. From what I understand these WARN notices do not guarantee that you will be laid off, but it is a formality that gives you notice that upon said date you may. These slips are usually filed for a reason however and I fear the axe may fall soon if an agreement is not made. The fallout will be like a line of dominos, and I would hazard to guess that more individuals/business will be screwed by the strike than we can imagine.

Strikes are never pretty, and it is sad that they have to happen at all. I personally hope that the whole shebang ends soon. Writing about it sucks and there hasn’t been a ton of good news to share with you about the situation. People are frothing at the mouth for their favorite TV shows to resume and I fear that civilization itself may crumble without quality programming. Lets hope we have a resolution before the riots start.

  1. This is really bad. It’s a scandal that the parties involved aren’t even talking right now. And what if when June comes, the WGA and AMPTP finally reach an agreement and the director and/or actors starts their strike, what then. Another six months of no jobs. I really feel sorry for the crewmembers, they are the real victims in this.

  2. And yet again, the WGA doesn’t even give a shit about these people.

Leno and Conan cross the picket lines to give the caterers, the carpenters, grips, etc. (aka the people who make the least money) some fucking jobs and what does the WGA do? They give both Leno and Conan a big “FUCK YOU, YOU SUCK! WE’RE NOT GIVING YOU YOU’RE WRITERS!”

    Producers! Stop being dicks!
    Writers! Stop being assholes!

    AND JUST FUCK ALREADY!
