Red River Anime Casts Minami Takayama and Kazuhiko Inoue as Yuri’s Parents

The official website for the Red River TV anime has confirmed the casting of two legendary voice actors for the series. Minami Takayama and Kazuhiko Inoue appeared in the first episode as the mother and father of Yuri, the series protagonist who is transported from modern-day Japan to the ancient Hittite Empire.

This casting serves as a nostalgic nod to the franchise history. Takayama and Inoue previously voiced the main characters, Yuri and Kail, in a series of drama CDs titled Sound Theater that were released between 1997 and 2003. Their return to the series as Yuri’s parents marks a reunion 23 years after their initial involvement with the source material.

A Legacy Reunion

Both actors expressed their excitement regarding the project. Takayama noted her gratitude for the opportunity to perform alongside Inoue once again, while Inoue shared his surprise at being involved with the work after three decades. He added that the casting choice is intended to delight long-time fans who grew up listening to the original drama CDs.

The anime adaptation of Chie Shinohara’s manga premiered in Japan on July 7. The production is directed by Kosuke Kobayashi at studio Tatsunoko Production, with series composition handled by Yoriko Tomita and character designs by Kenji Fujisaki.

Where to Watch

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the first episode of the series, titled A Goodbye Kiss, A Hello Kiss, for members across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent. You can find the series on the official Crunchyroll website. For more information on the production, visit the official Red River anime website.
