Experience Romantic Vulnerability In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Do Deewane Seher Mein”

Award-winning producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in association with Zee Studios, has created a light romantic drama that depicts the triumph of love amid psychological insecurities. Titled “Do Deewane Seher Mein”, the Hindi film features “Gully Boy” Siddhant Chaturvedi as an underconfident corporate geek, Shashank, and Mrunal Thakur as his love interest, Roshni, who is battling her insecurities with her physical appearance.

This story of a “perfectly imperfect pair” has been written by Abhiruchi Chand and directed by Ravi Udyawar. It was released in theaters on February 20, 2026.

The Good:

Do Deewane Seher Mein has two millennials struggling with insecurity and low self-confidence. Their love life is at stake as Shashank (Siddhant Chaturvedi) is suffering from a speech impediment, which is affecting his marketing career, and Roshni (Mrunal Thakur) has lost her confidence because of her dusky complexion and weird appearance. The film shows how these two overcome their psychological traumas, face the world, and gain confidence to engage in a romantic bond that ends up in their marriage.

This can be addressed as an awareness drama apart from a love story, as it teaches the upcoming generations to accept the way they look and not paralyze their confidence levels. This could act as an eye-opener in their endeavors to overcome personal and professional hurdles.

The Romantic Track “Aasma Aasma” From Do Deewane Seher Mein

Some of the dialogues are downright hilarious. In the first half, when Shashank (Siddhant Chaturvedi) says, “Tumhare paas woh hai, jo mere paas nahi”, meaning “You have what I don’t.” To this, Roshni (Mrunal Thakur) playfully responds, “B***s?” Even though this instance was funny to watch, controversy arose, and the film certification board had to silence Mrunal’s explicit word.

The visuals are aesthetically appealing, and certain scenes have been filmed so beautifully that you would want to take shots and frame them in your room. I would say the hero of this film is not Siddhant Chatrurvedi, but the cinematography of Mumbai city, which has been portrayed spectacularly. Besides, the romantic tracks are quite rocking and melodious.

The Bad:

Although Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur have carried out their respective roles with sincerity, their chemistry was irritating. Throughout the screenplay, both can be seen with gloomy and depressed faces, especially Mrunal Thakur, who gets agitated with even the slightest remarks on her.  Besides, Siddhant Chaturvedi’s character is absolutely pathetic. His job was to only “woo” Mrunal’s character after falling in love with her. His masculinity seemed to be at stake.

Also, the “beauty standards” of Bollywood surprise me. I mean, from which angle does a gorgeous actress like Mrunal Thakur appear “ugly”? The makers have tried to portray her character as having a higher body weight with a dark complexion, who wears large spectacles to cover up her defective nose. But upon watching the film, I never found the slightest defect in her appearance. She looked beautiful even with her spectacles on. Then what exactly are the makers trying to convey? I would like to question them: What is “beautiful” as per your standards? I think they might have tried to show the insecurity she was suffering from, despite being beautiful, or whatever. However, Mrunal Thakur, as an “ugly duckling”, appeared quite unconvincing.

The Verdict: A Mildly Engaging, Predictable Love Story With Some Absurdities

Do Deewane Seher Mein is being credited as a “feel-good” romantic drama. However, I get a “not-so” feel-good vibe from it. An unacceptable part of this love story is how it presents the Indian society. Roshni’s mother has been shown teasing her to become “beautiful”. I don’t know what’s wrong with the mindset of the makers, but Indian parents are never like this, teasing their own children to change themselves. If you time-traveled to our previous generations, you would not find even a single person who was obsessed with their looks. We Indians are an agricultural society, and hardships were a part of our lives. So, becoming obsessed with our looks was never a part of our daily schedules. It’s some recent beauty standards that have been created by the Bollywood industry that have brainwashed today’s youth.

Overall, Do Deewane Seher Mein is a simple and gentle romantic drama with no action or glamour. Just pure emotional scars leave their marks. Even though some scenes are engaging and the theme is realistic, I personally find the theme a bit absurd, with a predictable plot. Moreover, certain instances can induce boredom. I am not saying that the screenplay is mediocre. But a much tighter one was needed. Unfortunately, the film flopped at the Box Office. Still, if you wish for some light romantic entertainment, you can consider visiting the theaters for a change.

To conclude, I would suggest to those who are battling with low self-confidence, which is affecting their love lives, “Choose to love each other even in those moments when you struggle with insecurities and self-worth, because love is first a commitment, then a feeling. Self-acceptance is the key to victory against your inner conflicts.”
