The Legend Of A Forgotten King: The RajaSaab (2026) — Featuring “Baahubali” Prabhas in the titular role of Raju a.k.a RajaSaab

Time for my “Big Bad Review”! I am surprised by the everlasting stardom of Prabhas. The South Indian film industry seems to accept him as their superstar, no matter what nonsense he gets involved in. His latest theatrical release on January 9, 2026, is titled “The RajaSaab”, translated as “The King”, which is a Hindi-dubbed Telugu fantasy horror-comedy. The film is produced by T.G. Vishwa Prasad and has been written and directed by Maruthi.

I already had the lowest expectations from it, as Prabhas’ career graph is going down with a series of disasters. But when I watched this film, I was completely confused after experiencing the rubbish that was going on the screen. Was this even a film or some silly prank by Mr. Maruthi on the audience?

Brace Yourselves As The King Arrives: Featuring Prabhas as The RajaSaab!

Here, Prabhas, as a happy-go-lucky guy named Raju a.k.a “RajaSaab”, sets out on a mission to find his long-lost grandfather (Sanjay Dutt), as his grandmother (Zarina Wahab) wished to see him. But during his adventurous hunt for his grandpa, he comes across startling secrets about the old man. His grandpa was dead and has converted into a vengeful spirit who is guarding a secret treasure and is also bent upon killing his grandma. Will Raju be able to save his grandma from his grandpa’s powerful evil soul?

The Good:

The RajaSaab promises a mystical cinematography with compelling CGI and visual effects to showcase supernatural and horror elements. The sets, especially those of the haunted mansion, were very convincing. Also, the remastered retro Hindi track “Nache Nache” was rocking.

Not Just A RajaSaab, But Prabhas In Reality Is The “Rebel Saab”!

The Bad:

The RajaSaab movie still

It’s not just Prabhas who got startled after learning about his grandfather’s reality. Even I was shocked after experiencing this mediocrity in the name of a fantasy horror-comedy. There is literally no head or tail to the screenplay. Each and every scene in this film looks jumbled up. Mr. Maruthi must have thought he was making a mass-entertainer by jumbling up scenes in the South Indian filmmaking style. But he literally came out with a distasteful porridge that is hard to digest.

I wouldn’t say I am disappointed by the screenplay of The RajaSaab. I am actually irritated because this kind of mumbo-jumbo is the least expected from the South industry. The story and the screenplay have been very loosely presented. The editing is terrible. The screenplay appears like a hotchpotch of random scenes, where multiple mismatching sequences have been forcefully put together and somehow converted into a movie. There is a thread of continuity in the scenes initially, but as the film progresses, anything seems to happen at any time. As a result, you will never become emotionally invested in the characters.

Presenting Sanjay Dutt as Raju’s grandfather’s ghost in The RajaSaab

The second half was even more terrible than the first, with the climax showing a mix of reality and alternate reality where Prabhas confronts his grandfather’s powerful ghost to save his grandmother from his wrath. The ending scene was so confusing that I was thinking about leaving the theater at that point.

After defeating his grandfather’s vengeful yet comical spirit, the ending also showed Prabhas dressed as “The Joker” from the Batman movie, which signifies an upcoming sequel to further unravel some illogical and forced mystery. How did Prabhas end up becoming the “Joker” suddenly in the ending scene? I mean, who would want a sequel to such crap? It was hard to digest this movie, and do you think the audience would come back to see Prabhas as The Joker in The RajaSaab – Part 2?

The fact is, the South filmmakers have started thinking that if they put superstar Prabhas in any movie they make, no matter that the film may not have any story at all, it will surely be a blockbuster.

The performance of Prabhas in this film was extremely irritating. He was appearing like a sick joke in the name of the lead character. Besides, he has not given a single hit since his Baahubali franchise. His major films like Saaho(2019), Salaar(2023), Adipurush(2023), and Kalki(2024) were all major flops at the Box Office.

The South filmmakers need to get over Prabhas’ “Baahubali” image. That’s long gone! They need to understand that just showing Prabhas won’t make the audience accept any rubbish they will make. His looks, screen presence, machismo, and stardom aren’t just enough to keep the audience engaged. They need to make a proper entertaining film along with casting Prabhas, which the audience would enjoy watching.

The Romantic Track “Sahana Sahana” From The RajaSaab Featuring Prabhas With Nidhhi Agerwal

Nidhhi Agerwal as Raju’s love interest in The RajaSaab

The RajaSaab is a Hindi-dubbed Telugu film, and I must tell you, its Hindi dialogues seem like those of a typical low-grade dubbed movie. In short, most of the dialogues appeared fake. It’s really shocking how a mega-budget film can be made with such mediocrity.

It was even more disappointing to see the sheer waste of a talented veteran actor like Sanjay Dutt, who played the wandering ghost of Prabhas’ grandfather. I don’t know how he considered signing for this film in the first place. It looked as if he had just sleepwalked through his antagonistic ghost role.

Riddhi Kumar as Raju’s girlfriend in The RajaSaab

When Prabhas and Sanjay Dutt come together for a movie, I would say they compete with each other to show which one of them can sustain stability on the sets after being dangerously drunk. Their acting appears so.

Besides, RajaSaab is a womanizer! There are three lead actresses, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar, romancing Prabhas in different instances. This made their roles lose prominence. Prabhas was shown ending up with three girlfriends, before he ended up being the “Joker”. However, the supporting actors comprising Zarina Wahab, Samuthirakani, VTV Ganesh, and Boman Irani somewhat made up for the damage caused by the lead cast.

The Verdict: Yet Another Disaster By The Rebel Star!

Malavika Mohanan as Raju’s companion in The RajaSaab

If you say I have started hating Prabhas, it’s not so. So what if he has brought down several mega-budget movies in the name of his character experimentations? Jokes apart, but true! After seeing the disastrous career of Prabhas, I have gained huge respect for Salman Khan. At least, he doesn’t give a series of 500-600 Crore budget disasters.

The makers have tried their level best to convince the audience to accept Prabhas as “The RajaSaab”. You must be aware of how the South industry worships him as their Rebel Star, not just off-screen but also on-screen. You will even come across a dance track in the movie that addresses him as the “Rebel Star”. This is an absolute sarcasm. I believe, now after a decade of his flop journey, he can be very well addressed as a “Flop Star”.

“The Joker Saab”: Introducing Prabhas as the would-be “Joker” for the upcoming sequel to The RajaSaab

Mr. Maruthi has gravely disappointed us. If you ask me, I would vote for renaming this film “Maruti 800” in his honor instead of “The RajaSaab”, which happens to be an obsolete Indian car model. If you ever visit the theater to watch this film, make sure the theater has a hygienic restroom. Because after watching this piece of crap, you would definitely want to visit it. If the makers had considered investing the budget of INR 450 Crores in some undergarment factory rather than making this film, I can assure that their return on investment would have been much better.

I cannot describe in words the torture you have to go through for 3 hours and 10 minutes if you, by chance, accidentally visit a theater to watch this sick fantasy horror-comedy. Any sane person can lose their sanity or maybe get bored to death if they do so. However, this film may make some profits in South India just owing to Prabhas’ stardom there. The South audiences would go to any extent to support him and watch his film, even if it were a sheer disaster.
