Review: Netflix’s “Fixed” Is Perfect For Dog Lovers With Dirty Minds

Netflix’s new animated comedy, Fixed, centers on Bull, a lovable dog who discovers he’s scheduled to be neutered the following morning. Facing the looming loss of his most precious assets, Bull gathers his best canine friends for one last unforgettable night of freedom. With just 24 hours left, this pack dives into mischief, mayhem, and hilarity.

The Good

Idris Elba is fantastic, bringing sharp comedic timing and a charismatic voice performance that easily steals the spotlight. Elba’s character injects consistent humor and keeps the laughs coming.

Dog lovers will especially appreciate the hilarious and relatable moments. “Fixed” brilliantly taps into the secret world of dogs, exploring scenarios humans have only jokingly imagined. These clever “insider” jokes for pet owners were definite highlights.

The comedy itself is unapologetically raunchy. Netflix clearly allowed director Genndy Tartakovsky to push the boundaries, embracing some of dogs’ more disturbing habits, from bodily functions to outrageous behaviors. There’s a sense of comedic freedom that ensures Fixed never holds back, even if some scenes test the viewer’s personal limits.

The animation style feels intentionally rough around the edges, which perfectly suits Tartakovsky’s signature approach. It may seem crude initially, but viewers will quickly become accustomed to it after the first act. As someone who grew up in the ’90s, this style felt reminiscent of a more adult version of The Ren & Stimpy Show.

The Bad

While Fixed clearly aims to shock and amuse, it occasionally goes too far with its risqué content. The explicit humor, particularly around sexual jokes, can become excessive. Whether viewers appreciate or cringe at these moments will depend heavily on their individual comedic tastes and tolerance levels.

Additionally, viewers unfamiliar with Tartakovsky’s distinctive animation style might initially find the visuals somewhat jarring or amateurish. The animation improves with familiarity, but it could still distract some audiences at first.

The Verdict

“Fixed” is a bold, outrageous animated comedy that fully embraces adult humor. Idris Elba delivers a standout voice performance, and the film is loaded with inside jokes dog lovers will adore. However, the raunchiness might be too much for some viewers. It’s best to watch the trailer first to gauge whether this comedy style matches your preferences. If crude, adult-centric laughs are your thing, you’ll likely enjoy this wild canine ride.
