Trainers have a new event to mark on their calendars as Pokémon Go prepares to host a dedicated Nickit Community Day. The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. During this window, the dark-type fox Pokémon will appear frequently in the wild, providing players with an excellent opportunity to hunt for its shiny variant.
Following the standard Community Day format, the shiny encounter rate for Nickit will be significantly boosted. Players looking to optimize their time can utilize Incense to increase spawn rates while quickly checking encounters. A helpful tip for those on the move is to observe the orientation of the Nickit on the map, as they will face the player once tapped, making it easier to track which ones have already been checked.
This event is a great chance for players to engage with the game and potentially add a rare shiny to their collection. Community Days remain a cornerstone of the Niantic experience, offering a reliable way for trainers to gather resources and catch specific Pokémon that might otherwise be difficult to find in high numbers.
Exclusive Moves and Competitive Viability
Evolving Nickit into Thievul between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time will grant the Pokémon the charged move Icy Wind. For those who miss this specific window, the move may become available again during the year-end Community Day recap event in December. Alternatively, players can use an Elite TM to teach the move at any time.
Regarding competitive utility, Thievul does not see much use in PvE content like raids or gyms, as it is outclassed by other dark-type options. However, the addition of Icy Wind has improved its standing in PvP formats. Thievul is now considered a solid choice for the Great League when equipped with Sucker Punch, Night Slash, and Icy Wind. It also sees some viability in the Ultra League, though it performs best in the Great League tier.
Maximizing Your Community Day Bonuses
The event features several active bonuses designed to help trainers progress. Players will benefit from tripled Stardust for catching Pokémon, doubled candy for catches, and an increased chance for trainers level 31 and above to earn XL candy. Additionally, Incense will last for three hours, and Lure Modules will remain active for one hour.
To further boost candy gains, players can Mega Evolve specific Pokémon such as Gyarados, Houndoom, Tyranitar, Sableye, Sharpedo, Absol, or Malamar. The event also includes one additional special trade and a halved Stardust cost for trading. Even after the main event concludes at 5 p.m., Lure Modules will continue to spawn Nickit in high numbers until 9 p.m., allowing trainers to continue their hunt for shiny variants or those with special backgrounds.
