The cast for the upcoming Possession remake continues to grow. According to a new report, Paul Dano has officially joined the project currently in development at Paramount.
Dano joins a cast that already includes Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner. The film is being written and directed by Parker Finn, who is known for his work on the Smile franchise. Robert Pattinson is also attached to the project as a producer through his Icki Eneo Arlo production banner, alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment.
The original 1981 film, directed by Andrzej Żuławski, remains a highly regarded cult classic in the horror genre. It famously starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, with Adjani earning the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her intense performance. The story centers on a woman whose behavior becomes increasingly erratic and sinister following a request for a divorce from her husband.
Why This Remake Matters
Given the legendary status of the original film, this remake has a high bar to clear. The 1981 version is often cited for its visceral, unsettling atmosphere and remains a touchstone for modern horror filmmakers. By bringing in a talent like Dano, who is known for his transformative and intense roles, the production is signaling a commitment to the dramatic weight required for this material.
The involvement of Finn, who has proven his ability to craft modern horror hits, combined with Pattinson’s role as a producer, suggests a clear vision for updating this story for a new generation. Fans of the original will likely be watching closely to see how this team approaches such iconic source material.
