The upcoming sci-fi thriller The Outer Threat is set to arrive on digital platforms and VOD on Friday, July 10th. The film marks the directorial debut of filmmaker William Woods, who also wrote the screenplay.
The story follows astrophysicists Daniel and Michelle, who are forced to flee their home with their family after making a groundbreaking extraterrestrial discovery. As they are pursued through the countryside by a relentless and anonymous assailant, the line between cosmic revelation and human paranoia begins to blur. The film explores a tense confrontation that challenges the boundaries of science and survival.
The project features a cast led by Constance Wu, alongside Mark O’Brien and William Fichtner. The ensemble cast also includes Callista Crowe, Isaac Smelcer-Zhang, Oscar Hsu, and Murray Furrow.
A New Direction for William Woods
While this project serves as his first time in the director’s chair, Woods brings a wealth of experience as a producer. His previous work includes the 2016 thriller Mean Dreams and the 2020 film Castle in the Ground. More recently, he produced Honey Bunch, which premiered at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. Fans of his previous producing efforts may be interested to see how he translates that experience into his own directorial vision with this sci-fi premise.
