The independent dark comedy crime thriller Meta Take One is set to reach a wider audience with its upcoming digital rental release on August 4, 2026. Directed by John Dierre and Ryan Dutter, the film offers a gritty look at the challenges of guerrilla filmmaking.
A Frantic Night of Filmmaking
The 94-minute black and white feature follows an obsessive young director and his crew as they attempt to complete a movie over the course of one frantic night. As the production progresses, the process becomes increasingly destructive, both morally and emotionally. The filmmakers drew from their own experiences in Atlanta to craft a story that examines the fine line between artistic ambition and ego, as well as the cost of sacrifice in the creative process.
Award-Winning Indie Success
Meta Take One has already garnered significant attention on the festival circuit. The film held its world premiere at the Atlanta Film Festival, where it played to a sold-out crowd and secured the Audience Award. Its success continued with the John Singleton Award for Best Debut Feature at the American Black Film Festival. Additionally, the project earned Best Narrative Feature honors at the Oxford Film Festival, the Seattle Black Film Festival, and the New York Independent Film Festival.
