Sandra Bullock and Warner Bros. executives are talking about fan generated AI movie trailers for the upcoming sequel Practical Magic 2. The conversation started at the CNBC Changemakers Summit when journalist Julia Boorstin asked the studio co‑chair Pam Abdy about the AI clips that fans have been sharing online.
Abdy said she has not yet seen the fan generated AI trailers, but she feels excited that fans are already creating content before the official trailer drops. She told Boorstin that this early buzz shows a strong desire for the film and that fans want to play with the story.
Bullock’s View on AI
When Boorstin asked Bullock if it felt odd to see AI movie trailers that use her likeness without permission, Bullock laughed and replied, “Well, there could be worse with my image. Sorry. But it’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it. We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend.”
She added that the technology can be helpful, but it also requires caution. Bullock warned that some people might use AI for harmful purposes, yet she believes there is a place for AI in filmmaking.
Warner Bros. AI Strategy
Abdy described Warner Bros.’ AI strategy as a tool that can improve production and help artists. She said, “We have to look at it as a tool on the production side. How is it going to be used to help us make movies better for the filmmakers?” She noted that AI evolves quickly and the studio must stay informed.
The studio also sees fan generated content as a sign of potential success. Abdy pointed to recent releases like Barbie and Sinners, which benefited from a wave of user generated content. She explained that when audiences feel ownership of a film, they share it online, dress up for it, and even recreate scenes. That excitement can drive box office results.
What Fans Can Expect
At CinemaCon, Bullock and Nicole Kidman teased the sequel with hints of midnight margaritas, rooftop jumps, and lingering witch pasts. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on September 11.
While the official trailer is still pending, the buzz around Practical Magic 2 fan trailers shows how AI can amplify audience engagement. The conversation between Bullock, Abdy, and the media highlights a growing willingness to experiment with AI while keeping a watchful eye on ethics.
As AI movie trailers become more common, studios like Warner Bros. will likely continue to explore how the technology can serve both creators and fans.
