Andy Serkis Reveals Lord of the Rings' Big Secret

Andy Serkis Reveals Tintin Sequel Hope and Batman Filming Plans

It has been fifteen years since Steven Spielberg released the animated adventure “The Adventures of Tintin.” The film earned $374 million worldwide on a $135 million budget. At launch, the studio announced plans for two more movies. The second film would have been directed by Peter Jackson and the third could have seen both Spielberg and Jackson co‑direct. The story ideas included adapting the two‑part adventures “The Seven Crystal Balls” and “Prisoners of the Sun” as well as the moon voyages “Destination Moon” and “Explorers on the Moon.”

Fans learned that the sequel was announced but then fell into development limbo. Over the years, no new footage or official updates appeared. Many assumed the project was dead.

Andy Serkis, who voiced Captain Haddock in the first movie, spoke to Collider about the future. He said he loved the original film and believes Peter Jackson still wants to make the follow up. “I love that Tintin film. I loved the process of making that film with such great filmmakers. I think Peter really, really wants to make it, so hopefully down the line,” Serkis told the outlet. His comments give hope that the Tintin sequel may still happen.

Andy Serkis Balances Batman and Gollum

Serkis also shared news about his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II.” He explained that scheduling conflicts with his other projects are being sorted. “I’m pretty certain it’s all going to work out. Yeah, we’re working on it, but I think it’s all looking good,” he said.

The Batman sequel will start filming in June in the United Kingdom. Serkis will not join the set at the very beginning because he must finish his work on the new “Lord of the Rings” related film “The Hunt For Gollum.” He added that he expects to appear by the end of the year.

Other Projects

Since the last “Hobbit” movie, Peter Jackson has focused on documentaries about World War One and The Beatles. He is also producing new “Lord of the Rings” stories, including “The Hunt For Gollum,” which Serkis will star in and direct. That project begins shooting next month.

Serkis is currently promoting the animated feature “Animal Farm,” which he directed. His busy schedule shows why fans are eager for updates on both the Tintin sequel and his upcoming Batman appearance.

Overall, the latest interview suggests that the Tintin sequel is not officially cancelled and that Andy Serkis plans to appear in “The Batman: Part II” later this year.
