SNL Weekend Update Delivers K‑Pop Laughs, Golden Globe Buzz and Stranger Things Roast

Michael Che and Colin Jost opened the show by poking fun at President Trump’s recent Kennedy Center events. They noted that Trump hosted an award ceremony for Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor and the rock band KISS. They also highlighted a musical performance by The Village People. The hosts asked, “Is Donald Trump a gay man from 1978?” They then joked about Trump’s warning that a Netflix and Warner Brothers Discovery merger could be a problem, adding the word “bribe” for effect. Finally, they claimed that Netflix is offering Trump a night with the fictional “K‑Pop Demon Hunters” to keep him quiet.

Golden Globe Nominations Spark Satire

The duo turned to the latest Golden Globe nominations. They announced that the film “One Battle After Another” received the most nods. They also teased that Michael Che’s own project “Hold Up, Medea Got a Daughter?” earned the fewest nominations. The jokes kept the audience laughing while they delivered the key nomination highlights.

Jane Wickline’s Stranger Things Song Gets a SNL Twist

Jane Wickline performed a tongue‑in‑cheek song about the young cast of “Stranger Things.” She warned that the child actors could become a future threat. She sang, “We’re programming monsters we will lose control of soon. They’re taking every job, and singularity is approaching.” Colin Jost interrupted, thinking she was talking about artificial intelligence. Wickline replied that AI is a distraction and that the real danger lies with Sadie Sink and her co‑stars.

She continued, “The Stranger Things kids use a cubic mile of water every minute. If there’s a hell, Gaten Matarazzo belongs in it. They’re crushing the environment and killing the economy. Finn Wolfhard is the devil to me.” She added that the six actors are planning to seize the next election and that she stands with the villain Vecna.

Jost laughed and said, “Vecna! Jane, these kids are harmless. All they do is go on Hot Ones.” Wickline responded with a wild plan involving cheese on a string, a box, and a heroic rescue that would win an award. She imagined President Chatbot beaming at her for stopping an apocalypse.
