Eight returns to the hit Netflix series and brings Linnea Berthelsen back to the screen.
Who is Linnea Berthelsen?
Linnea Berthelsen is a rising actor who gained fame for her role in Stranger Things. She was born in India and grew up in Denmark. She began her career by acting in short films such as Mirrors, Teenland and Natskygge. In 2017 she landed the part of Kali Prasad, also known as Eight, in Stranger Things. She appeared in three episodes of the second season, most notably in the episode The Lost Sister.
Outside of Stranger Things she has kept a low profile. She did appear in four episodes of the sci‑fi series Devs, playing Jen, a coworker of the main character Lily. The show was created by Alex Garland, who also directed Ex Machina and Annihilation.
Who is Eight?
Kali Prasad is the sister of Eleven. Both children grew up as test subjects in Hawkins Lab under Dr Martin Brenner. While Eleven developed telekinetic powers, Eight learned to create hallucinations and manipulate minds. Before the lab, Kali lived in London and was taken at age five. She later escaped the lab and joined a gang that fought the people who hurt her.
The Lost Sister episode explored Kali’s past. In that story Eleven meets her sister and learns the word “bitchin”. The episode sparked debate because it shifted focus away from the main plot of the second season.
What is Eight’s role in Stranger Things Season 5?
In the first volume of Stranger Things Season 5, Hopper and Eleven try to enter a room in the Upside Down where they think Vecna is hidden. Inside the military base they discover that the captive is actually Eight, held by Dr Kay and her team. This marks Kali’s first appearance since Stranger Things Season 2.
Eleven and Hopper rescue Kali and bring her out of the Upside Down. A clash soon erupts between Hopper and Kali over Eleven’s future. After a second abduction by the military, Kali stays angry and plans to use Eleven to stop the program that creates superpowered children.
In the penultimate episode, Kali and Eleven devise a plan to sacrifice themselves to destroy the Upside Down. Kali believes that killing both Henry Creel and Eleven will end the threat of more experiments. The final episode will reveal whether Kali will try to kill Eleven or help her survive.
Fans must wait until New Year’s Eve to see how the showdown between Kali, Hopper and Eleven ends.
