M Night Shyamalan Plans a Magic 8 Ball TV Series That Could Change Your Fate

Filmmaker M Night Shyamalan announced that he will direct a live action TV series based on Mattel’s iconic Magic 8 Ball toy. He shared a photo of a script cover that reads “Magic 8 Ball Season 1 Pilot” on Instagram. The post sparked excitement among fans who love mystery and supernatural drama.

Collaboration With Brad Falchuk

Brad Falchuk, the co creator of Glee and American Horror Story, will co create the series with Shyamalan. Together they plan to blend suspense with humor. Mattel Studios will produce the show and provide access to the classic toy design.

What the Series Could Look Like

The Magic 8 Ball contains a white twenty sided die that floats in blue tinted liquid. Ten faces give a yes answer, five give a no answer and five stay neutral. The series could use this random element to drive plot twists. Each episode might start with a character asking a question and then watching the die settle. The answer could set the tone for the episode and keep viewers guessing.

Shyamalan wrote in his caption, “Been working on this for a couple years… Who is in?” He added the hashtag #IsItCertain, a nod to the toy’s famous response. The caption invites actors, writers and networks to join the project.

Past Attempts At Adapting the Toy

In 2019 Jeff Wadlow was attached to direct a film version of the Magic 8 Ball for Blumhouse. The project never moved forward. Earlier, Paramount tried to develop a film adaptation in 2010 but it also stalled. None of those versions reached production.

Unlike the earlier attempts, Shyamalan’s plan focuses on a television format. This gives the story more room to explore different characters and outcomes. No network or streaming service has committed to the series yet, but the involvement of Shyamalan and Falchuk has generated buzz.

The partnership between a master of twist endings and a creator of popular TV drama could bring a fresh take on a beloved toy. Fans of Shyamalan, Falchuk and classic toys may all find something to enjoy. If the series gets green lit, it could become a new cult favorite.

Stay tuned for updates as the project moves forward. The Magic 8 Ball may soon answer more than just simple yes or no questions—it could answer the question of whether we get another unforgettable TV show.
