The show follows the rise of Zulu king Shaka, played by Lemogang Tsipa, from a young warrior to a visionary ruler. Cast and Production
The series was filmed entirely in South Africa. In addition to Lemogang Tsipa, the cast includes Nomzamo Mbatha, Wiseman Mncube, Dawn Thandeka King, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Mondli Makhoba, Mpilo Mbatha, Anele Nene, Vuyo Biyela and Ntando Zondi, who portrayed the young Shaka. Casting for the new season will begin later this year.
Bomb! Productions led the ambitious project, creating more than 16,000 jobs during season two. The show holds the record for the most awards at the South African Film & Television Awards, with twelve wins for costume design, cinematography, soundtrack and authentic cultural portrayal.
