Hacking is part of a way of life. At least it seems that way! Every so often headlines are littered with talks of a security leak or scandal releasing private information to the masses. The good folks over at Norton put together a little, (actually kinda impressive), infographic together illustrating the history of Hacking.
It seems barely a week goes by where a hacking scandal isn’t hitting the headlines, often leaving some major corporation red faced, with it’s customers personal details strewn across the web and beyond.
Don’t Panic! This guide has been put together to help you understand the basics of hacking. By the end we are certain you will be more confident, equipped with the knowledge to navigate the web avoiding the scourge of
the modern day cyber thief.
Long before the term hacking was associated with a mysterious criminal, cooking up an evil plan to bring down the connected world, a hack was nothing more than a solution to a problem.
To students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during the 50s and 60s, the term hack was simply a practical joke, but as time went on it became linked with the thriving computer programming scene.
In fact, people were hacking before the phrase was even coined. Way back in 1878, when apple was simply a fruit and a PC was an officer of the law, teenage boys employed by the Bell Telephone Company as switchboard operators mischievously eavesdropped on customers calls and intentionally misdirected calls, purely for amusement.
Hacking may be a way of life but there are measures of prevention available for us! Thankfully the fine folks at Norton have safeguards available to not only protect identity, but also your private/sensitive information! Don’t wait until something happens, prevention is the best policy.
