James Gandolfini might join Burt Wonderstone

It’s hard for some of us not to imagine James Gandolfini as anything other than a tough New York mobster after masterfully portraying one on the hit HBO show The Soprano’s but it seems that we’ll have another opportunity to do just that if he signs on to join Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell in the magical comedy Burt Wonderstone

Variety reports that the Sopranos star is in negotiations to join the magician comedy Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as “half of a once-successful Las Vegas magic duo that must reunite to square off against a hot shot street magician (Carrey) whose tricks are often dangerous.” Gandolfini is eyeing the role of the billionaire owner of the casino where the title character and his partner perform.

Sounds like an easy enough role for the guy and I love the notion of adding appreciable talent to just about any production. Still don’t have a clear idea of what to expect from this proposed movie but this casting rumor has just elevated it a few notches on the radar. Can’t wait to find out what/who else they may have up their sleeves for this one.

  1. I’m interested to see who the other half of Carell’s “once-successful Las Vegas magic duo” will be. Any guesses or wish list actors to take this spot?

    1. It will be a female. From Deadline: “The short list for the female lead right now is Olivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, Judy Greer, Sarah Silverman and Jessica Biel.”

Wilde is getting played out and I don’t get Judy Greer.
