Trailer: Batman Year One

Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the sheer multitude of Batman projects going on at once. Not only did he get a brand spanking new Batman #1 on comic shelves today, he also has new footage for his latest animated movie that’s sure to be a stocking stuff this christmas.

I like the animation and I like the style. It seems really close to Bruce Timm’s style, which was used in Batman TAS, and more recently in Justice League Unlimited.

I’m not sure about Brian McKenzie’s rendition of Batman. I guess I shouldn’t be hoping for something as refined as Kevin Conroy’s work with the character, and maybe it will be a good storytelling tool as the actor is as inexperienced at being Batman as our caped crusader.

The tone and everything else easily meet my lofty expectations as the folks involved have mastered the art of translating these characters and their world into animation. I’m really looking forward to this one and will be sure to review for you guys as soon as I get my copy.

  1. On all of the Warner Premier direct to video movies for DC Comics, the producers try new casting for each project. The only exception was one of the Superman/Batman movies they did get Kevin Conroy & Tim Daily to reprise their roles. AS far as the animation style, Bruce Timm is one of the producers on this so it would have some of his look & feel. I believe Lauren Montgomery & Sam Liu are listed as co-directing it.

  2. I’m willing to give that voice actor a chance (and just assume that Kevin Conroy simply did not want the gig anymore). He has the grittiness but doesn’t have that Christian “someone get him a f’n riccola” Bale grittiness that makes you wonder if he’s okay rather than fear for your life.
