Lincoln will NOT be political fodder

Steve Spielberg is making a masterpiece. I know that phrase is far too often used but in this case he has what looks to be, on paper, an actual “sure thing”. Hear me out. He’s making a film about one of America’s most revered presidents and has a clear plan about the story he wishes to tell. He’s also assembled what looks to be one of the finest and most stellar lists of casting in recent memory. This is a delicate ‘thing’ to direct and deliver to the public. As such, Spielberg does not want his movie released until after the 2012 presidential elections.

We’re basing it on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book, ‘Team of Rivals,’ but we’re only focusing in on the last four months of Abraham Lincoln’s life.
He then narrowed down the previous “Fourth Quarter 2012” release date to about 7 weeks:
The movie will be purposely coming out AFTER next year’s election. I didn’t want it to become political fodder.

So I like what he has in mind thus far. He wants to make a movie and does not want any political party piggy backing his film for their own endeavors. I think it’s actually pretty damn commendable to release a film about a president and allow the film to maintain some level of impartial integrity until after the election process. I’m anxiously awaiting my opportunity to sit down and watch this film as it has earned its welcome place along the top of the radar long ago.

  1. I am very much looking forward to this film! Knowing what Spielberg is capable of in his films is definitely a good cause to call this another masterpiece! I think his decision to hold off after the election is a wise choice if his plan for the project was not to be meant as a political commentary. Perhaps filmmakers should begin to look back at some of our former presidents and create films on their lives. In a time where sequels and superhero films seem to reign supreme, an original idea like this would be greatly received. Plus, I would like to see a film on FDR and his work with the derpession and WWII!!!

  2. Well, it’s a little convenient to say you are going to wait till after the election when it’s not really possible to get the movie done earlier anyway. It like saying, “Today we found out that my wife is pregnant. In everyone else’s interest, we are going to postpone the delivery till after Christmas though, so as not to disrupt everyone’s holiday plans.”

But I do respect Steven Spielberg a lot. I look forward to the movie.

  3. Sounds like it’s going to be that dark modern-esque “dark knight” rendition still taking place in appropriate times but being far more deep in the facts and some of the emotional topics and scandals rather than Abe’s accomplishments and being a hero, etc. Looking forward to it. Also respecting the release date idea.
