Trailer for new Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I live In Hits The Web

I admit. most of the movie news these past few weeks have all been about heroes, cars and other bits of geekdom. Today we get a breath of frssh air, as we get a glimpse of Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I live In”. I count this as great news- because Antonio Banderas is in it, and this is the kind of film the actor needs. Other than a box office hit, of course. In any case Collider gives us more:

Today a new trailer has been released that promises even more vibrant cinematography and body-stocking clad fight scenes than ever before. Even viewed in this electric guitar-backed 60-second clip, The Skin I Live In doesn’t look like anything the director has attempted before or like any other movie coming out in the next few months.

The synopsis for the movie? Glad you asked

Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig.

Hey, be careful what you wish for…! But all I know is this project looks a lot more promising than most of the dreck Bandaras has appeared in of late (I dare…double dare anyone to sit through twenty minutes of ‘The Big Bang’. I couldn’t make it past fifteen) and since this is a foreign language film, that means some North American audiences will miss it because…well, there’s no heroes, no talking cars and no wizards. Maybe Almodovar’s enough…

Whatcha think, Int’l friends?

  1. The movie is disgusting. Really, this is what the movie is about, tell me if you are still “excited” to see it:

“Man rapes guy’s daughter – in sick detail. Woman kills herself.

Father, rather than perhaps killing the rapist instead performs a sex-change operation on the killer and transplants his dead daughter’s face onto said rapist.

Father now has sex with the man who raped his daughter, who is technically a man, looks like his daughter and yet again is the man that raped his daughter.

I’d say this movie does a tremendous job showing us how depraved society has become. There’s a reason many people walked out of the preview halfway through the movie. You decide.”

People say it explores human emotion, I have to say, I don’t have those thoughts or emotions. Maybe it explores criminal or deranged human emotions. Ah, sorry, I don’t need to “exprience” that kind of “art” much less get excited about it.

DON’T GET ME WRONG, I AM NOT ADVOCATING YOU CENSOR IT! Just think people should know it’s not some edgy little independent film but rather a full on celebration of the worst depravity people can achieve. (Wow, I probably just increase curiousity and movie attendenace with my post).

  2. Pedro Almadovar is the “Clockwork Orange” of film directors (if that makes any sense).

He always shocks and disgusts you on some level.

    sign of a great storyteller

    1. Funny, people leaving the theater were saying that too. But despite that there was a lot of love for the film (and some bile hate too.. its pretty impacting)

This film really turned my head around about Banderas (who was in attendance) He is an amazing actor.
