Highlander reboot finds financing

I’ve been wondering what’s been going on in the world of the Highlander with it being slated for a reboot, and I thought the silence on the subject meant a typical trip to development hell. Seems that I was wrong as this one is pretty much full of life, and now full of financing.

RCR Media Group has sent out a press release announcing they’re co-financing the Highlander reboot with Summit Entertainment and Neal Moritz Productions…

The press release reports that Fast Five director Justin Lin is still attached, but keep in mind that his plate is filling up with other projects due to the success of Fast Five. Not only does Universal want to hit the gas on Fast and Furious 6, but Lin is also attached to Terminator 5. Does he want to make the first great Highlander movie (the original is campy fun, but not a great movie) or does he want to go to a film that’s likelier to succeed like Fast 6 or T5?

I like the Highlander mythos and I actually believe that this is one of the few franchises that I believe is ready for a re-do reboot. It’s been a good 25 years since the initial movie was released and if Justin Lin is still involved to take on this franchise then it might have that right amount of “refresh” to re-invigorate life into this dormant franchise. Hope to have news soon, and as soon as we get it we’ll share with the rest of you guys.

  1. I think the original holds up fine for what it was. I still remember watching this one in the theatre waaay back when. It was pretty awesome at that time, it had the “Blade Runner” word of mouth and was spoken about everywhere that year.

    the Sequels……not so much.

I even followed the series up to a certain point.
    I watch another.
